Let's differentiate Cataract and ptergium
Cataract and pterygium are both eye conditions, but they affect different parts of the eye and have different causes and treatments.
1. **Cataract**:
- **Location**: A cataract affects the **lens** of the eye, which is located behind the iris (the colored part of the eye).
- **Cause**: Cataracts are usually caused by the natural aging process, where the lens becomes cloudy or opaque, leading to blurry vision.
- **Symptoms**:
- Blurred or cloudy vision
- Difficulty seeing at night
- Sensitivity to light and glare
- Fading or yellowing of colors
- Double vision in one eye
- **Treatment**: Cataracts are typically treated with surgery to replace the cloudy lens with an artificial one.
2. **Pterygium**:
- **Location**: A pterygium is a benign growth of tissue on the **conjunctiva** (the clear tissue covering the white part of the eye) that can extend to the **cornea**.
- **Cause**: It is often caused by prolonged exposure to UV light, dust, wind, and dry conditions.
- **Symptoms**:
- Redness and irritation
- A noticeable growth on the eye
- A feeling of something in the eye (foreign body sensation)
- If large, it may distort the cornea and cause blurred vision
- **Treatment**: Mild cases are treated with lubricating or anti-inflammatory eye drops. Severe cases that affect vision or cause discomfort may require surgical removal.
In summary, **cataract** affects the lens and is primarily age-related, while **pterygium** affects the surface of the eye and is linked to environmental factors.
