Open Letter to my fellow Professional colleagues- Doing works that matter’s✨Have you done your personal appraisal for the year??

Welcome to my Birth Month beautiful people🥰

October is Bringing good news after good news, blessings, sucess and growth on all level for us in Jesus name, Amen 🙏.

There is only 13 Mondays left in year 2024 and like Dominick Namis said,this means there is no time to waste👌🏽.

He stated that👇🏾

- If you want a promotion → keep proving value
- If you want a raise of pay → keep showing results
- If you want more interviews → keep revising your resume
- If you want more job offers → keep applying for more jobs
- If you want to maximize income → keep doing all of the above

Let’s talk about wanting a promotion😃, as one of the big 4 employee’s has been making us jealous all day on this App🌚. it’s only 3 month left before a lot of us will be appraised on our efforts in our companies for the year. Why wait till then before you do a personal appraisal of your works so far by yourself?

Benefits Of Taking Personal Appraisal Includes-

📌Doing Works that matters- A personal appraisal allow you review your KPI(Key performance Indicators)for your job role,which makes you know if they are any duties you are performing that’s outside your KPI’s especially one that might be time consuming,so you can discuss it with your line manager on the next call of action.As employee are only appraised and reward with promotions majorly on their performance on their KPI’s.

📌 It Clarifies One’s strengths and weaknesses-You will be able to identify job duties you are lacking behind in,build strategies on how to improve on them,either by asking for help,taking training, putting more efforts in them to cover up and turning them into your strengths also.It also helps to document one sucess and achievement,so you won’t forget when it matters.

📌It Enhances job performance and productivity- A personal appraisal will enhance your productivity as you will be doing the right things,which will support your career advancement and led to promotion.

📌Makes One’s Accountable to meeting the KPI’s- A major reason why a lot of employees don’t perform well,is because checks(appraisal) are done just once, especially after a long period,but with a personal appraisal that I recommend should be done at least quarterly.It helps one reflect regularly on what the expected job duties are and performance on it so far.

You did the best you could do today and for this week,and that’s enough.Your best will look different everyday and every work week. Please do rest a lot this weekend and not worry about things outside your control.

Rest means different things to different people, to some like myself, it’s staying indoor, watching movies and reading books, to others it’s visiting places and having fun, the most important thing is try do what rest is to you this weekend. YOU are the most important factor, try to ensure you prioritize REST, your health(physically & mentally) will thank you.

There is more to life than working and the stress that comes with it, we are replaceable at our workplace and rest is a necessity.I think we all need the reminder.

Is your current job worth your life?Your Career can cause your death if you allow it, is the lesson I learnt today from reading the sad story of a fellow accountant Anna Sebastian Perayil

I would like to appreciate her mum, for creating awareness of how toxic some workplace can be despite her pain with her letter, I pray the lord continue to comfort her and every of Anna loved one’s.

Here are some traits in Anna mum letter that highlights what a toxic workplace looks like-

📌Excessive & Overhelming workload-she explained how most times, Anna was made to do a lot of work that ain’t even part of her official work, things not stated in her Job Description(JD), most organizations are use to this, using an employee for more than what their JD entails which do lead to burn out of the employee and can cause health damages.

📌Previous Employee’s Feebacks-Her letter stated most of the previous employees have resigned due to work overload, I once read how reaching out to old employee’s of a company before accepting a company offer letter should be a must, but I didn’t understand the gravity until now.Try to make your own personal research about a company, why did the old person occupying this position leave, so you don’t fall victim.

📌Work pressure- Accounting Career like most other major career comes with pressure and demand, it takes a whole lot of factors to even take the pressure off but working for a company that feeds on pressure and make their employees feel guilty for even resting is a toxic one like what Anna went through.

📌Lack of respect for personal time outside work- Anna personal time wasn’t respected, I read how you shouldn’t think of work after you close, because the hours you are using to think about it ain’t being paid for,her night wasn’t for working, it was for her personal use,to do whatever she wanted,her company didn’t respect that, they treated her like her whole time has been paid for and she was owned,this is the number 1 trait of a toxic work environment.

📌Work Culture-Prioritization of health and wellness of employees, any company that don’t have provision for employee’s health such as sick leave, Health insurance packages(HMO) for their employee’s and most importantly allow them actually use these packages is toxic,they should also creating an environment where employee feel safe to speak up when needed, Anna didn’t even speak up probably because she couldn’t.

It’s really sad she kept working hard and focusing on the advantage, the exposure she was trying to gain, also too kind to call her manager’s out, but your mum letter aim has been achieved,your experience did lead to a real change for me and I hope it does for others.
I can’t help but wonder if you would have still being alive if you never applied to EY, another reason I advocate praying begeoe applying to a company, sometimes a rejection from our dream company is a blesisng.

Happy Sunday beautiful people, hope you had an amazing day in fellowship with other believers?

One of my books of the month is the 7 Habits of highly effective people and below are some Powerful lessons from Chapter 1.

Chapter 1 talks about the first habits we need to be an effective person which is “Being Proactive”.

📌Be proactive-This means creating or controlling a situation rather than just responding to it after it has happened. Reactive people are driven by feelings, by circumstances, by conditions, by their environment while Proactive people are driven by values, carefully thought about values, they are still influenced by external stimuli but their response to the stimuli is a value based choice or response.

📌We have the power to chose our response in every circumstances-We are not our feeling, we are not our mind, we ain’t even our thoughts, we have self awareness, between stimulus and response, we have freedom to choose a response.If our feelings control our actions, it’s because we have decided to empower them to do so. We are advised to be more self aware. Look at where we focus our time and energy, focus on things that we can actually do something about.

📌Our behavior is a product of our decision, not our conditions-We have the responsibility to make things happen (Responsibility is the ability to chose our response).We should not blame circumstances for our behavior, our behavior is a product of our conscious choice, based on values.

📌What matter most is how we response to what we experience in life-A lot of people assumed being proactive means not facing reality but the books explains that We face reality by knowing we have the power to choose a positive response to any circumstances. Not facing reality would have been to accept the idea that what’s happening in our environment had to determine us.

📌Being proactive is also realizing that past mistakes ain’t within what we have control over, we can’t recall them, we can’t undo them? We can’t control the consequences that came as a result, we can only acknowledge it instantly, correct ourself and learn from it. Our response to any mistake affects the quality of the next moment.

📌Be careful of the language you use daily-don’t get into a blaming accusing mode, we should work on things we have control over, work on YOU, look at the weakness of others with compassion. If we start to think the problem is “out there”, we should stop ourselves, that thought alone is the problem.

I would like to end with this beautiful Prayer from Chapter 1-Lord give me the courage to change the things which I can and ought to change, the serenity to accept the things which cannot be changed and the wisdom to know the difference.

Happy New month beautiful people, it’s the last month of the year 12/12, God sure is a faithful God and we thank him for the gift of live.

A movie that shows the reality so clearly, about what happen with teenager’s love especially first love.Sista is a typical secondary school girl, was in love with a senior, had s*x and got pregnant because love at that age especially without strong principles will led to s*x and most don’t know about protection sadly. I will forever be grateful to my first love Joseph, it’s God that will reward him for me.So to my review, after the pregnancy, shocking the grandma decided to abandon both her son and future grandchildren (effect of poverty), same with sista elder sister. Thankfully she was a strong hardworking lady and her bf Fola was quite supportive in the start, my no 1 issue with sista is what most of us female do, our partner/husband SUCESS is enough for us, we don’t mind being the supporter and building builder, because after she had her first born, she should have continue schooling also, even if it’s part time.lesson no 1- Love yourself first, love yourself not to neglect yourself & development because of love😩🤲
She was contented with their current setting, he was studying and she was okay with just trading to support him, that she totally neglected herself, her own education, her own dream, her dream became his (Fola)dream. Lesson no 2- As a female, you should never stop dreaming, I genuinely don’t believe getting pregnant outside Marriage should be the end of your life, you can still pick yourself up and be motivated harder because of your baby, don’t get comfortable and defined by that situation please, your destiny isn’t just to give birth alone🤲😩. Sista suffered a lot for her children after he abandon her with 8 month pregnancy, those suffering could have been prevented if she didn’t get comfortable after the first child and never stop dreaming also. Fola is the type of guy, my sister will say doesn’t know what he want yet in a woman, all he was doing was picking based on what he can afford and within his reach, I refuse to believe he loved her because love is a commitment and he walked out on that for years 🥲 without looking back.
It’s safe to say she did all the love & proved her love with her action, I so loved how she picked herself up and ensured her children didn’t suffer and kept encouraging them, her new dream was now to be taken care of by her children after they become successful, 90% typical parent.They comfort themselves with the fact that, their children won’t repeat the same mistake they did, try to train their children right to ensure that, some become too strict and end up losing their children. Lesson no 3-one of our major motivation should be our parent, learn from their mistake( even if they don’t share), look at their situation and aspire to do better, Sista +Fola parent & guidance were very poor, yet they allow their feelings not allow them plan properly not to end up Same, if not for Sista hard work,they would have repeated a cycle of poverty if he drop out of school also, so please it’s okay to love, have feelings but be careful with what you do with it, most will wear off after sadly, wait till marriage for s*x🤲
After he left, she worked as a cleaner for 10+ yes, lesson no 4- Be hardworking, be diligent in whatever you are doing, she was honest and diligent in her cleansing people spaces for years and kept getting jobs based on referrals, don’t be lazy sis, don’t allow your situation define you oo. After 18+ years of suffering, Fola saw her cleaning his home after coming back to Nigeria for a visit and decided he wanted to be a father to same children he abandoned, which brings us to lesson 5- “Be a good woman”, be very kind as a person because Fola wife was kind and God fearing, when she told her friend the story and how she wnatss her husband to go beg for forgiveness and do right by Sista, her friend despite knowing sista suffering kept asking “are you sure?, won’t it affect your marriage, she doesn’t have to know” but Fola wife put herself in sista shoe and insisted nope he should do right by her, as a female, be kind to other females, put other people in your shoes, treat them the way you want to be treated, don’t go about destroying people home, stealing a fellow female husband, boyfriend, causing pains to a fellow female.
In the end, Sista did the right thing by forgiving Fola, lesson no 6- Vengeance is for God, always forgive, no offense is too big not to forgive, it’s okay to not trust again, but learnt to release any person that wrong you or hurt you from your heart by forgiving. A lot of people said she should not have forgiven him, I can’t remove Christianity from my review, so it’s the Christ like thing to do, thankfully God kept Sista & her children. Now thanks to her wisdom and decision to forgive, her children will have a better life and please we should always manage expectations, she didn’t say after all I did, I want so and so when he came back even begging, let’s learn to do things for people without expecting reward, it helps us handle disappointment when they disappoint us especially in relationship. A lot of people story don’t end with an happy ending like Sista, some lose their life while hustling, some Fola never get came back for their children, a lot can be learn from the movie but the most important one to me is wait till marriage for Sex😩. It safe you a lot of things and it’s the right thing to do.Thank you
