It is disgusting to see a picture of someone defecating but it does happen. Thousands of people still do open defecation. It is a bad trend in Nigeria and the government is saying we should desist from open defecation and make Nigeria open defecation free. People should build affordable latrines and toilets cistern. Stop open defecation now and live a more healthy life.

At this juncture, we will consider the health risk of Open defecation

Health Risks
1. Waterborne Diseases: Open defecation contaminates water sources, and this is the cause of the spread of waterborne diseases like cholera, diarrhea, and typhoid fever. Most people don't know that open defecation can cause them typhoid fever.
2. Soil-Transmitted Helminthiasis (STH): Open defecation can lead to the spread of STH, a parasitic infection that can cause anemia, malnutrition, and impaired cognitive development.
3. Dysentery and Diarrhea: Open defecation can cause dysentery and diarrhea, leading to dehydration, malnutrition, and even deaths.

As WASH OFFICERS we will trigger our people out from bad practices such as open defecation and ensure that the WASHCOMs do the needful through routine sensitization of the communities.
