A fire was recorded at Piers 7 and 8 at the Port and Cargo Terminal at Tin Can Island Port, Lagos, when a crane caught fire and crashed into an MV ship. ALGECIRAS EXPRESS, loaded with containers on Thursday, July 20.
Eyewitnesses said the crane caught fire while unloading the container from the ship, the fire spread to the ship and other containers. The fire involving the Liebherr and Mv Hapag-Lloyd cranes was determined to be caused by a mechanical failure, which reportedly raged for about four hours before being brought under control by firefighters.
NPA leadership has yet to issue an official statement on the incident, but sources say there have been no casualties in the outbreak.
