सुगौली सन्धीमा गुमाएको मध्ये तराईको ठूलो हिस्सा पछि नेपालले फिर्ता पायो । नेपालसित युद्ध गर्दा गोर्खालीहरुको बहादुरीबाट भित्रैदेखि डराएका थिए ब्रिटिशहरु । बेलायत र नेपालको युद्धमा ठूलो असमानता थियो । हाम्रा १२ हजार सेना थिए भने उनीहरुका ५२ हजार । हतियारको नाममा हामीसँग खुकुरीका अलावा छाला र ढलोटका केहि तोप थिए । यता, उनीहरु आधुनिक हातहतियारबाट सुसज्जित थिए । यसका बाबजुद गोर्खालीले झण्डै एक वर्षसम्म युद्ध लडेका थिए । युद्ध जिते पनि सम्भवतः बेलायतले ठान्यो, भविष्यमा कुनै पनि बेला वीर गोर्खालीले यो पराजयको बदला लिनेछन् ।
