Cream vs. balm — what’s the difference?
Both can be part of your skincare routine, but they’re not quite the same.
Here are 3 key differences as I understand it:
1. Water content: Creams usually contain water, while balms are typically oil- and wax-based, with little to no water.
2. Texture: Creams tend to feel lighter and spread easily. Balms are richer and more concentrated, softening as you warm them between your fingers.
3. How they support your skin: Creams can provide hydration through their water content and moisturising ingredients. Balms help soften dry skin and create a protective layer that helps reduce moisture loss.
Neither is necessarily better, it comes down to your skin’s needs and what feels right for you.
