An electromagnetic solar storm is predicted for the next three nights. Aurora Australis may be seen from the deep south and from as far north as Wellington. (Friday - Sunday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. with the best viewing predicted during Sunday night). Weather conditions play a big part in visibility so if it's fine have your cameras ready for mother natures spectacular light show! 😍

COVID-19 Lockdown Treat Me Update…

We hope that everyone is keeping to themselves & obeying our Governments advice, and that this message finds you well.

Admittedly, planning for the unexpected & unknown future has been a difficult challenge - the definite is that things will be different.

Just a few notes below to keep you all updated with where we are at & what we are planning for…

We are sorry, Treat Me, is unable to deliver teleconference consultations during the COVID-19 Lockdown Phase. I am concerned about the efficacy & efficiency of delivery - I am not appropriately equipped nor setup well where I am in lockdown; and, I have full respect & gratitude of the Essential Services that do continue to operate.

Rest assured, as our future changes, we will continue to explore telecommunication services, with plans to deliver from the Clinic once Alert Level restrictions are lowered.

For the immediate future, Corina will be available for consultation by telephone for a couple of days in the coming weeks.

Tuesday 14th & 21st, & Thursday 9th & 16th, from 10am-2pm. Please allow 10-15mins for your consultation.

Simply [email protected] with your preferred date & time to catch up!

Having only opened our doors in September 2019 it seems a bit cheeky to have another opening!

We are still unsure about what this will look like and/or when but we can share that…

We will liven up as soon as we are given the green light from the Ministry of Health & Physiotherapy NZ. It could be Alert Level 3 but maybe Alert Level 2.

We are a small practice, delivery of our personalised service will remain the same. We will comply with all governing guidelines to ensure that your & our safety is paramount, and will otherwise continue with the following measures introduced at Alert Level 2…
- Cancellation of patients with flu-like symptoms & fever or those who have not complied with 2week self isolation
- Entry & Exit Procedure with streamlined entrance
- No more than 2-3 clinicians operating at one time, and
- Please no cash sales

Please use email instead of phone to contact us during the Alert Level 4 Lockdown, and stay posted on FB. We don’t post often but will keep our faithful’s and the wider community updated here!

Lastly, we can share that we have been using this down time productively & hope to bring some new things to you post COVID-19. Keep an eye out!

Take care & stay safe people 🤗 Helen, Tania & Corina

💥Spine "Cracking"💥
📚 Today's post is from the March 2019 issue of our resarch reviews and highlights a study on "Beliefs in the Population about Cracking Sounds Produced During Spinal Manipulation", reviewed by Dr. Steve Kamper, PhD.

These wonderful infographics were made by Dr. Caleb Burgess DPT, OCS, CSCS who's doing a great job disseminating new research 👏

💥 Background/Objective:

🔘 See graphic

🔘 Spinal manipulation involves application of a high velocity, low amplitude movement producing joint surface separation; this may or may not be associated with a cracking sound. Various explanatory models have been proposed to describe the mechanism of action and account for the sound

🔘 Different professions have tended to adhere to different models, and history has seen various models fall out of favor as research evidence accumulates

🔘 Over time there has been a gradual retreat away from mechanical theories, e.g. joint surfaces being realigned, towards neurological explanations (Bialosky et al 2009) and justifying manipulation as providing a ‘window of opportunity’

🔘 At the same time, evidence has shown that the cracking sound during manipulation is not due to hard tissue movement, but gas bubble formation within synovial joint fluid
💥 Methods:
🔘 See graphic
💥 Results:
🔘 See graphic
💥 Clinical Implications:

🔘 See graphic

🔘 Interestingly, beliefs about the source of cracking sounds were not different between those that had previously received manipulation, and those that had not. This perhaps indicates that healthcare professionals providing this type of treatment do not tell their patents what is responsible for the cracking sound

🔘 It is not clear whether the failure is due to health professionals themselves holding on to outdated beliefs, or their unwillingness/inability to correct them in their patents

🔘 Regardless, this points to the need for clinicians that use manipulation to become better acquainted with up-to-date research and/or improve communication with their patients!
