Sportsmed Team

Training week done in Hamilton with World Rugby 7's Referees. Sportsmed are proud to be providing physiotherapy and Strength and Conditioning services to these dedicated athletes. Next stop Sydney.

Pretty cool behind the scenes clip on the World Rugby Sevens referees. Sportsmed are proud to supply these hard working athletes with physiotherapy and S and C services

Sportsmed have been lucky enough to be treating and putting these fine referees from all over the world through their paces in Dubai and Capetown on the World 7s circuit for the last 2 weeks. These guys work extremely hard on the physical and technical parts of their game in order to be the best they can be- granted they get to do it at some pretty special places! Make sure you get yourself booked in at Sportsmed to get your aches and pains sorted before we close up over the Christmas break.

Santa's little helpers Kate Simmonds and Katie Bromley snuck in overnight and tried to put a bit of Christmas spirit into Sportsmed's own Christmas grinch Hayden Sproat's treatment room. We think they did an awesome job- Hayden was not so impressed! Sportsmed hopes that all our patients are gearing up for a great Christmas :)

Japanese beam blossoms in Rugby World Cup

Sportsmed was very privileged to work aside and learn from a former patient, then work colleague, Simon Jones for 5 months at the World Cup with Japan Rugby. We would like to congratulate him on his new appointment and wish him well now that he has taken up a role with The Pulse Energy Highlanders working alongside our previous clinic manager Adam Letts. Lettsy has been the team Physiotherapist for the last 6 years. Southlander Simon Jones was part of rugby history in Japan earlier this year and now he's back to help the Highlanders.

Secret fitness regime behind the sensation of Shizuoka

Invercargill's very own Simon Jones is leading the way in World Rugby Strength and Conditioning. In Sportsmed Southern Physio's opinion (and WR stats back it up), he has prepared the fittest team in the World for the 2019 Rugby World Cup. Previously the S and C coach for Rugby Southland he will next year be in charge of the Pulse Energy Highlanders. It's been an absolute pleasure and a fantastic opportunity for my own professional development Karl McDonald working with Jonesy and the world class coaching staff we have.(Jamie Joseph Tony Brown Scott Hansen Shin Hasegawa) #oneteam not to mention the hardest working and most tight and committed group of players I have had the pleasure of working with. As Isileli Vakauta would say Yaeh Boi!!!!!! Strength and conditioning coach Simon Jones is credited with preparing the super-athletic Japan squad that ran Ireland off the field.

Two Southlanders in the thick of it as Japan stuns world rugby "The team has belief because they know they are the fittest and one of the most skilled teams at this World Cup.''

We told you last week that the Stags players and Staff (especially Sportsmed's very own Andrew Mackintosh!) were working extremely hard to get the W and BOOM!! Massive congrats to all players, management RS staff and supporters on a fantastic win against Counties Manukau on Saturday! Let's finish the seasosn strongly.

Unfortunately we don't have any external walls to put this at Sportsmed Southern Physiotherapy at our premises in the ILT Stadium Southland so we had to put it on the water tower :) Feel free to share if like us at Sportsmed you think Karl McDonald would be a valuable contributor to Invercargill's ILT Board.

Sportsmed's Andrew Mackintosh in action on Saturday working with our Stags. Rest assured that big Savs Mackintish along with all the players and management are doing all they can to get the W! Up the Stags!

Captains run complete. Going to be a hell of a game on Friday night. Japan v South Africa and Sportsmed will be sideline. Book in for all your injuries at Sportsmed.....treating the elite all over the globe.

It's been a long journey for Sportsmed Southern Physiotherapy working with Team Japan the last 47 days and to finally get to see the boys put all their hard work to the test yesterday and beat Fiji was just reward for a special bunch of players and staff. Bring on Tonga next week in Osaka.

Plenty of niggles for the medical team to keep on top of including our own expertise from Sportsmed Southern Physiotherapy

[05/30/19]   As some of you may have already seen, unfortunately due to a power outage at the stadium we will be closed today until further notice. Recognise yourself Southland - compassionate, passionate, ambitious

Sportsmed's Karl McDonald had a letter to the editor printed in today's The Southland Times expressing how proud he is to be living and working in Southland- a place which leads the way in innovation, where diversity is celebrated, people genuinely care about each other and a city with some exciting things on the horizon. OPINION: Letter writers on the Wachner Place peace vigil and inner-city development.

It's been a busy 2 weeks in Las Vegas and Vancouver providing Physiotherapy for the match officials on the World Sevens Circuit. Great bunch of very committed athletes these refs and s pleasure to work with. Looking forward to getting home to my family friends and Sportsmed/MFL and Stags patients soon.

Ministers Visit Leaves Community Uncertain – Make Your Submission Now!

Sportmed provide an on site physiotherapy service at SIT and we hear on a regular basis how important SIT are to our communuty. Please take 5 minutes of your day to click on this link and make a submission to the government to stand up for SIT! Both SIT CEO Penny Simmonds and Sir Tim Shadbolt, commented that despite several meetings with the Minister they were left uncertain and devoid of any clarity on proposal. Many of the statements made by the minister went as far as contradicting the proposal discussion document. [adrotate group="4"]....

Stand Up for SIT

Sportsmed are standing up for SIT and we hope our clients do the same......

The Government’s proposal to merge NZ’s ITPs, including SIT, would be catastrophic to Southland’s economy, communities and growth. Let’s Stand Up For SIT!

Hayden and Sam bought their new baby in to see the team at Sportsmed yesterday. Too cute! Congrats to you both and welcome to the Sportsmed family Cooper!!!

Southland Business Leader Slams Education Minister’s Proposal For ITPs

This has far reaching effects for Southland and our community. Sportsmed engages daily with the Southland community - particularly our proud Southland sports community... and we need to make noise. Like we do in our own small way SIT supports Southland sports in so many ways, not to mention their major financial support of the SIT sponsored Stags, SIT sponsored Steel and SIT sponsored Sharks. Get in behind this Southland people, we are all affected 👊 Carla Forbes, creative director and owner of Invercargill marketing and communications consultancy Market South, former President of the Southland Chamber of Commerce and business leader, is incredulous at the Government’s proposal to merge 16 Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics (ITPs) aroun...
