Sportsmed Southern Physiotherapy is an Invercargill based, ACC- accredited, clinic that is well-known for their quality one-on-one, uninterrupted hands on service they offer every patient, each time they visit. After being established in 2004, Sportsmed is well immersed in the Southland community and is the official physiotherapist for the New Zealand Academy of Sports, Rugby Southland, Southland Stags, Invercargill Netball Centre, Southland Sports Academy as well as a variety of rugby clubs, secondary schools and local businesses. With being located in the centre of the ILT Stadium Southland and surrounded by a multitude of courts and fields, Sportsmed is right in the middle of the action to help the Southland community for all their sporting injuries.
There are a few winners out of Covid 19 - one being us and more importantly another being our community.
Why? Karl McDonald is usually away with the World Sevens and the Japan Rugby team - with travel now off the agenda we are absolutely pumped to open our NEW central Invercargill clinic at Snap Fitness. And, we are stoked to be able to take on new patients. He cant wait to help out with all your aches and pains. Call 03 2173420 to make an appointment now!
We are all in this together Southland
Covid 19 has presented some really tough times for all of us, so we are doing everything we can to make sure we have got your back (and the rest of your body too 😊)
Our community has always been core to our activity, so we are making sure we are safe and easily accessible, so aches and pains are not one of your worries. We have clinics in Invercargill at the stadium and Bluff and are adding a central Invercargill Clinic in to Snap Fitness.
We are all in it together lets stay safe, stay well and stay local
Sportsmed are delighted to announce that we are able to see our patients back on site at the ILT Stadium from Thursday 14 May. We would like to assure you that we have taken all precautions to ensure the safety of our patients and our staff. For those who would prefer to continue using Telehealth that is still available. We have a rigorous Covid Policy which we will be implementing to ensure everyone's safety. Please ensure that you arrive at least 10 minutes before your appointment to give you time to go through screening procedures.
We're Open and Seeing ACC Patients. But Now Online with NO SURCHARGE
We're pleased to be able to let you know that Sportsmed Southern Physiotherapy will still be operating throughout the next four weeks. We will be conducting our consultations via Telehealth (telephone or video conference), so ACC patients can stay at home, but continue to receive care from the Sportsmed team with no surcharge.
What does this mean for you?
If you have been seeing us, nothing changes.
We will still be able to see you.
We will be in touch with you soon to make an appointment or you can call Sandra as usual 03 2173420 to make an appointment
You will be able to attend your consultation right from your home without having to visit our clinic. The consultation will be conducted securely through our Telehealth platform.
There is no cost or surcharge for these consultations.
If you have a new ACC injury then call us 03 213740 to make an Initial appointment to be assessed by one of our team.
The best thing you can do right now is to get help and advice from our team.
Our therapists will see you via a secure video call and go through all the ACC registration process with you for your injury.
They will assess and exam you and use their expert skills and knowledge to provide you with education about your injury and give you specific techniques and exercises that you can perform to ensure a fast and successful recovery.
They will book follow up appointments to help guide you through the entire rehab process or until we are back up and running in the office.
There is no cost or surcharge for these consultations.

Training week done in Hamilton with World Rugby 7's Referees. Sportsmed are proud to be providing physiotherapy and Strength and Conditioning services to these dedicated athletes. Next stop Sydney.
Pretty cool behind the scenes clip on the World Rugby Sevens referees. Sportsmed are proud to supply these hard working athletes with physiotherapy and S and C services
Sportsmed have been lucky enough to be treating and putting these fine referees from all over the world through their paces in Dubai and Capetown on the World 7s circuit for the last 2 weeks. These guys work extremely hard on the physical and technical parts of their game in order to be the best they can be- granted they get to do it at some pretty special places! Make sure you get yourself booked in at Sportsmed to get your aches and pains sorted before we close up over the Christmas break.
Santa's little helpers Kate Simmonds and Katie Bromley snuck in overnight and tried to put a bit of Christmas spirit into Sportsmed's own Christmas grinch Hayden Sproat's treatment room. We think they did an awesome job- Hayden was not so impressed! Sportsmed hopes that all our patients are gearing up for a great Christmas :)
Sportsmed was very privileged to work aside and learn from a former patient, then work colleague, Simon Jones for 5 months at the World Cup with Japan Rugby. We would like to congratulate him on his new appointment and wish him well now that he has taken up a role with The Pulse Energy Highlanders working alongside our previous clinic manager Adam Letts. Lettsy has been the team Physiotherapist for the last 6 years.
stuff.co.nz Southlander Simon Jones was part of rugby history in Japan earlier this year and now he's back to help the Highlanders.
All of us at Sportsmed encourage you all to fight for fairness and fight for Tiwai. Please share and sign this petition.

Invercargill's very own Simon Jones is leading the way in World Rugby Strength and Conditioning. In Sportsmed Southern Physio's opinion (and WR stats back it up), he has prepared the fittest team in the World for the 2019 Rugby World Cup. Previously the S and C coach for Rugby Southland he will next year be in charge of the Pulse Energy Highlanders. It's been an absolute pleasure and a fantastic opportunity for my own professional development Karl McDonald working with Jonesy and the world class coaching staff we have.(Jamie Joseph Tony Brown Scott Hansen Shin Hasegawa) #oneteam not to mention the hardest working and most tight and committed group of players I have had the pleasure of working with. As Isileli Vakauta would say Yaeh Boi!!!!!!
world.rugby Strength and conditioning coach Simon Jones is credited with preparing the super-athletic Japan squad that ran Ireland off the field.
stuff.co.nz "The team has belief because they know they are the fittest and one of the most skilled teams at this World Cup.''

Massive congrats to all players, management RS staff and supporters on a fantastic win against Counties Manukau on Saturday! Let's finish the seasosn strongly.
Unfortunately we don't have any external walls to put this at Sportsmed Southern Physiotherapy at our premises in the ILT Stadium Southland so we had to put it on the water tower :) Feel free to share if like us at Sportsmed you think Karl McDonald would be a valuable contributor to Invercargill's ILT Board.

[05/30/19] As some of you may have already seen, unfortunately due to a power outage at the stadium we will be closed today until further notice. Sportsmed's Karl McDonald has just landed a role with the Japan Rugby Team at the upcoming Rugby World Cup. Just goes to show what can be achieved from Invercargill!
