KOMBUCHA
It was time to make a new brew this morning. I love how this little healthy ritual takes so little time and the rewards are so great!
Note my little card which reminds me when it is ready to bottle. I forgot to bottle it yesterday but the joy of this brew is that it is very forgiving. I bottled 3 lots, and thought, “what shall I flavour it with?”.......immediately it came to mind....a kumquat was sitting in my fruit bowl, so I peeled it, cut the peel up in small strips and composted the fruit part. Kumquats are reverse mandarins....the skin is sweet and the flesh is tart.
The last lot of kombucha was made with a mint tea bag, and 2 green tea bags. When it came to flavouring, I added a few fresh mint leaves. It was yummy!!
Click on the link below if you’d like to know the recipe. I have a few scobies available for koha if you’d like.

I L💚VE this!!
Seaweed Sesame Sprinkle I hate waste. I try to reinvent a purpose for it rather than to bin it. The same principle stands for food. I hate to waste food of any kind, so I’ll try and reincarnate it into something yummy instead of relegating it to landfill. For example....that lovely expensive sourdough bread that you forg...

Staying positive.
BOWL OF BLESSINGS:
This is a lovely exercise in gratitude. ❤️
What you need:
Some gentle background music
Peace and solitude to focus
Crystals
A bowl
(If you don’t have lots of crystals, collect some pebbles.)
Sit quietly at a table, have your crystals on hand, on a large kitchen towel. Pick up one crystal at a time, place it in the palm of the right hand, close the left hand over the top, close your eyes while visualising something you are grateful for. Say to yourself, “I’m grateful for.....” and place it gently in the bowl. Keep doing this exercise until there are no more crystals left. Now look at your bowl of blessings and bathe in the glow of gratitude.
Repeat this as often as you need to, and be reminded of all your blessings. Abundance. 🥰

🪥🪥🪥 So my dearly-beloved requested more dental powder as he’s running out. He’s hooked now! 😁. Good day for it...dull and drizzling outdoors.👍🏽🪥🪥🪥
Peppermint Clove Dental Powder July is Plastic-Free Month. Focussed on getting people to be aware of all the single use plastic we use, and aimed at reducing the amount of plastic us consumers use. So here’s a great idea…plastic free dental powder! Easy to make, economical and really nice to use. No plastic packaging needing ...

At last, my new blog! I’ve been having IT issues 🤯, not my strong point! Thanks Brigette for your help! I have to get my Big Girl Britches on and learn how to navigate this new site! 🤣🙏🏼
KidsSpeak In a recent clean out of all my “stuff”, I came upon a couple of pages with hand written notes. It’s something I’ve treasured all these years! As a new teacher back in 1989, I was fascinated and thrilled by conversations and observations from the children I worked with.

Shanti’s always has the best idea......nap time! All day long!
LUFFA
Check out these fabulous specimens!! And no, I didn’t grow them, but Rachel, our gorgeous daughter-in-law did!! She grew 5 fruits from a tiny seedling I gave her (mine did woefully) and she gifted me these two beauties! A Luffa is a cucurbit that grows on a vine, like a squash. Once the fruit has filled out, it is left to dry. The skin is peeled off (bang it on a hard surface) and the seeds removed. More seeds mean you can grow more scrubbers next summer!
Each luffa has been chopped in half and one pair will be used in the bathroom for personal body care, “His and Hers” scrubbers (great for improving circulation and skin tone).
The other one is also chopped in half and we have started to use it for cleaning dishes! Just lather it up with a bar of Sunlight soap and Voila! It scrubs them so clean and sparkly with minimal elbow grease!!
Best of all......when our Luffa scrubbers have worn out, we will just chuck them into the compost bin to fully biodegrade!! I can’t wait to get my Luffa in earlier this Spring, and grow a bunch of new biodegradable scrubbers. 🌞🌞🌞

If it weren’t for our hottie, where would we be........?🎤🎹🎼
Take a Hottie to Bed Winter is here! The temperatures are dropping and night temps are hard on the body comfort zone. Time to break out the hot water bottles! I have just replaced a couple of old ones (life span seems to be about 5-6 years) and so needed some covers for them. Being an avid upcycler, I rummaged in my sew...

FERMENTED LIMES
She’s done! All our limes had to be picked, and so this is a great way to preserve some for a rainy day. 🍋
Cut them from the top down into quarters, reserving a little connected skin on the bottom. Open the quarters and fill them with a teaspoon Himalayan salt. Carefully place your limes into the wide-mouthed bottle, as many as you can fit.
Squeeze enough juice to cover them. Place the lid on (I line the lid with an old coffee pouch, to prevent the lid from rusting (acidic and salty...perfect recipe for corroding the lid).
Label and date it for 2 weeks time.
Check periodically, remove any scum that develops on top. There is a lots of bubbling (fermenting activity) from approximately day 2 - 10 but then it calms down.
Once two weeks is up, give the juice a little taste....yum! Time to pop it into the fridge where it will last many, many months.
Use a quarter on the side of your plate and eat in small slivers with your meal. It adds a zing and a new dimension! Works VERY well with a good veg curry. 🎇🔥🎇
