This one took a few hours. She had very long, very thick hair. Lightening hair like this is done in stages and requires lots of attention and patience. She showed me some Inspo pictures which gave me an idea of what she wanted. Inspo pics are super helpful but are just that; inspiration. With the development of AI pictures, in the salon, we can loòk at the pics to gain an understanding but they are heavily filtered and created but converting them to an exact replica is often unrealistic on 'real hair'.
The goal was to create a band of about 3" around the hairline circumference of the head of 'white' hair. It's important to retain the integrity and health of the hair, so needs to be done slowly and in stages. No colouring was performed on the top of the head. This result was a challenge and so satisfying to achieve.

What I thought was going to be a basic full head of foils quickly turned into a lengthy consultation and analysis of 'what's going on here?'
My client has recently returned to NZ after a few years overseas and was suffering the consequences of the climate plus her 'foils' had basically become a solid bleach block blonde on top leaving her with very defined regrowth, and a few scattered blondes underneath.
My goal was to even her out allover, get rid of the yellow, fill and reintroduce some of her natural base back into her hair and give her a full head of foils, meaning, her growout will be much so much more blended and subtle...with her super thick hair, this entire process took 4+ hours...but we were soo happy with the result!

Unfortunately, the Before photo is missing, but the during and after pictures demonstrate the progress. We started with a dark brown colour that was almost black. The client wanted to transition from regular permanent colour root retouches to a softer, more subtle look, with the end goal of embracing her natural grey and incorporating scattered lowlights. Today's process involved an extensive foiling technique using lightener and a bond restructurer. After lightening the hair, I toned it with a Demi ash brown to neutralize orange and gold tones, resulting in a softer colour.
