Why are you paying β±10,000 for an expired SIRB and SID?
This is not a simple fee,it is a penalty under MARINA Memorandum Circular No. MD-2024-01, dated March 10, 2024, and signed by Administrator Sonia B. Malaluan. The circular is addressed to all seafarers, port state control authorities, shipping companies, manning agencies, and all concerned entities. It states that any seafarer found serving onboard with an expired SIRB/SRB and/or SID may face a β±10,000 penalty and possible non-employment until compliance.

To all seafarers, before joining your vessel, ensure that your SIRB/SRB and SID are valid for at least 15-20 months. This helps avoid issues and prevents penalties. Under MARINA Memorandum Circular No. MD-2024-01, serving onboard with expired or insufficient validity of SIRB/SRB and/or SID may result in a β±10,000 penalty and possible non-employment until compliance is met. Coordinate closely with your manning agency and check your documents early.

SEAFARERSβ HEALTH ALERT: Colon Cancer Cases Increasing Among Filipino Crew | MARINO PH
Manila, Philippines - A growing number of Filipino seafarers are being diagnosed with colon cancer, according to health experts and maritime medical practitioners. The alarming trend places colon cancer alongside other serious illnesses affecting seafarers, such as stroke, kidney failure, and liver disease.
Colon cancer, also known as colore**al cancer, begins in the large intestine (colon or re**um). It often starts as small growths called polyps that may become cancerous if left untreated. Medical professionals are urging seafarers to undergo regular health screenings, especially those with a family history of cancer.
Common Symptoms Include:
β’ Changes in bowel movement (diarrhea or constipation)
β’ Blood in the stool or re**al bleeding
β’ Stomach pain, cramps, or bloating
β’ Sudden weight loss and persistent fatigue
β’ Feeling that the bowel does not completely empty
Why Seafarers Are at Risk:
Experts point to several contributing factors unique to life at sea β including irregular meals, consumption of processed or frozen food, limited physical activity, chronic stress, and disrupted sleep due to long working hours.
How to Stay Healthy:
Doctors recommend seafarers eat more fiber-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains; drink plenty of water; avoid smoking and excessive alcohol; and perform light exercises onboard. Early screening and medical check-ups are also key in preventing serious complications.
Maritime health advocates emphasize that awareness and lifestyle changes can make a life-saving difference. βYour health is your greatest investment - both for your career and your family,β one medical expert advised.
