A Twisted Tale: A Whole New World by Liz Braswell
2.5/5 ⭐
I loved it really. I love the premise that this retelling goes in a different direction than what we watched when we were kids.
The only beef I have with it is how the characters were retold. Not a single character development was seen in the entire book, even during the battle with Jafar.
Worse, some characters were just placed there just because, without any substance to the story.
The ending plot twist is really good, though. I just wish the book didn't drag on in the middle with the same predicaments as the previous chapters.

Alex Cross's Trial (Alex Cross #15) by James Patterson & Richard Dilallo
This is the 15th book from Patterson's Alex Cross collection.
At first, I thought it had something to do with our protagonist Alex Cross being on trial for something he didn't do, but it turned out to be something different.
It's told in the POV of Alex Cross as he writes a book about one of the darkest moments in the history of people of color in America, involving a lawyer from D.C. named Benjamin Corbett and Alex's great-grandfather, Abraham Cross.
A mix of fiction and reality about the lynching of black people in Southern United States, this book, though it quite deviated from the rest of the Alex Cross series, just showed how injustice would prevail if backed by the majority and even people of power; how no matter how hard we tried, people deemed not part of society will still be ostracized no matter how much rights they come to have.

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige
Another retelling of the famous "Wizard of Oz" novel by Frank L. Baum.
The story tells of another girl from Kansas--Amy Gumm--who was brought to Oz via a tornado, only to discover that Oz had been under the rule of the tyrant queen, Dorothy Gale, for a while now.
The story has a premise, but the telling is very disappointing and drags on. The series could have finished in just a trilogy instead of a four-part series (it also has prequel novellas that I am still about to read).
For four books, there is very poor character development among the leads, and the only character that I liked was Ozma, to be honest.

Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
Set far in the future, called the Third Era, this series contains retellings of your favorite fairy tales.
This is one of the most unique fairy tale retellings that I've read. I also love the fact that the "princesses" in this series are not damsels-in-distress, but brave warriors who came to the rescue of their "princes", instead.
