Myth: Eating before bed will make you gain weight
When it comes to maintaining a healthy weight, some studies show a slight advantage to people who stop eating early in the evening. But, other studies show the opposite. The overall difference is minimal.
There are a few reasons eating late at night may contribute to weight gain or hinder a weight loss goal, and they are linked to increased daily caloric intake.
The simplest reason is that if you consume a snack instead of directly going to bed, the calories from that snack are ones you might have done without.
People often snack or eat to keep going, whether its work, study, or even to watch TV. And when doing so, our choices are often high calorie snack foods or sugary treats.
If your calorie intake is balanced with your activity level, when you eat makes little difference. Eating late won’t cause you to gain weight, unless it drives to eat more and increases your overall calorie intake.
If you have one, add your favorite healthy late night snack to the comments.👇

Autophagy, meaning "self-eating," is a natural cellular process in which the body recycles damaged components and proteins, particularly during fasting or periods of low nutrient intake. This biological cleanup mechanism plays a key role in maintaining cellular health by breaking down and removing dysfunctional parts before they accumulate and cause harm. Japanese scientist Yoshinori Ohsumi was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2016 for his groundbreaking work in discovering the genes behind this essential process.
Beyond its cellular housekeeping role, autophagy has been linked to longevity and disease prevention. Studies suggest that activating autophagy through intermittent fasting or caloric restriction may reduce the risk of chronic diseases like cancer, type 2 diabetes, and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s. As scientists continue to explore this powerful process, autophagy is emerging as a cornerstone of preventive health strategies and age-related disease research.
