What's the difference Between Classic, Volume & Hybrid Eyelash Extensions?

If you are new to the world of eyelash extensions there different terms used for different techniques that you should undertsand. There are Classic, Hybrid and Volume extensions which each one is a different technique and we are going to cover the grounds of them all. One thing that each technique has in common when it comes to the installation is the isolation process. This is where you take one natural lash and get in-between your isolation tweezers so that when you place your extension, it won't get stuck to other lashes. So lets get to it!

What are classic eyelash extensions?
Classic eyelash extensions are simple, beautiful, natural-looking eyelash extensions. They are applied on a 1:1 ratio, which means one extension is attached to one natural lash. This allows you to achieve a natural enhancement. Classic eyelash extensions come in a range of materials, thicknesses and styles, and part of our training covers the specifics. Classic eyelash extension application typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours and the results should be soft, natural-looking lashes. Classic lashes won’t add much volume but will add length. Classic extensions offer an even lash line that opens up the eye.

What are volume eyelash extensions?
Volume eyelash extensions vary from a natural look which adds some length and volume, to a very dramatic and full look. The lashes range from 2D-6D and anything over a 4D is going to appear that your client is wearing a strip versus a natural look that classic and hybrid extensions would give. This technique can be done with pre-made fans or the fans can be made by hand using a special tweezer. The fans are still attached to natural lashes but they come in .03, .05, .07 which are lighter than classic extensions. It typically takes 2-4 hours depending on whether or not the technician uses pre-made fans.

What are hybrid lashes?

Hybrid lashes are a 70-30 mixture of both classic lashes and volume lashes. Choosing hybrid extensions gives your clients the best of both worlds. The look is achieved by mixing classic lashes and volume lashes placed strategically to frame the eyes. Hybrid extensions offer a variety of texture and more volume, but without the sometimes-unnatural look of volume lashes. For the clients that want a lash line with a bit more volume but not quite as full as volume extensions, then this is the route to go.

What’s better, classic, hybrid, or volume eyelashes?

Classic lashes require little preparation, so they're more affordable if budget is important to your clients. Volume lashes require a higher level of skill and time investment on the part of the technician, as they handmake the fans beforehand.
Any technique is a good option for your clients, it really depends on the look your client wants to achieve, budget and the skillset of the technician. This is after 3 weeks of growth. Some lashes will grow faster than others, this all depends on your natural lash cycle. This is the reason why we recommend coming in for a refill sooner. For classic lashes, it is best to come in between 2-3 weeks and volume lashes at 3-4 weeks. When lashes are outgrown, they can bend or turn because of the weight. Lashes then get messy and tangle up, this can sometimes cause damage to your natural lashes because of the pulling weight.
