We often hear Matthew 19:5-6:

“So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

This verse is frequently used to emphasize the permanence of relationships, especially marriage. However, what is often overlooked is 1 Corinthians 7:15, which says:

“But if the unbeliever leaves, let it be so. The brother or the sister is not bound in such circumstances; God has called us to live in peace.”

While marriage is sacred, God does not call us to stay in relationships that rob us of peace. If someone chooses to leave, or if a relationship is no longer aligned with God’s will, forcing it to continue may not be His plan.

Yes, commitment is important, but peace is, too. Let’s not take one verse while ignoring the full wisdom of Scripture. 💐
