Imagine biking up Mystic Mountain.

For starters, it's three light-years tall. And as part of one of our galaxy's largest star-forming regions, it's also mostly made of hydrogen!

Thankfully, none of the mountain bikers competing in the have to deal with that!

This view of the "Mystic Mountain" was Hubble's 20th anniversary image! This stellar nursery has infant stars buried inside that fire off jets of gas, seen streaming out from the towering peaks of gas and dust.

Bullseye 🎯

Wolf-Rayet 140 may look a bit familiar to archers and sharpshooters competing at the this week.

This Webb target is composed of at least 17 concentric dust rings, emanating from a pair of stars located just over 5,000 light-years from Earth. Before Webb turned its precise eye towards this stellar duo, ground-based telescopes were only able to see two dust rings.

Each ring was created when the two stars came close together, compressing the gas and forming dust. The stars’ orbits bring them together about once every eight years — the length of two Summer Olympics from now!

Tropical Storm Debby brought more than a foot of rain to parts of Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas before continuing to the mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

This map shows total rainfall from Aug. 3-7, 2024. These data are remotely sensed estimates that come from IMERG (the Integrated Multi-Satellite Retrievals for GPM), a product of the Global Precipitation Measurement mission, and may differ from ground-based measurements.

The deluge continued as the storm made a second landfall northeast of Charleston, South Carolina, early on August 8. As Debby continues northward as a tropical depression, forecasts call for heavy rain to move across the mid-Atlantic and Northeast on August 9–10. Full story: https://go.nasa.gov/46F5lUh
