According to the United Nations Office on Drugs, Pakistan has 6.7 million drug users. More than 4 million of these are addicts, amongst the highest number for any country in the world. It calculates that more than 800,000 Pakistanis aged between 15 and 64 use he**in regularly. It is also estimated that up to 44 tons of processed he**in are consumed annually in Pakistan. The population that is involved In drug abuse is mostly of a lower income background.
