The Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra presents Mozart’s beloved Clarinet Quintet in ‘Viennese Vogue’. In the late 1700s, Vienna was seized by enthusiasm for the clarinet. Mozart fell in love with the sound of this fashionable new instrument, considering it the closest to the human voice, and his Clarinet Quintet, with its perfect proportions and melodic invention, remains one of his most celebrated works.

It inspired his former student and protégé Johann Nepomuk Hummel to write his own Clarinet Quartet, a beautifully balanced work of chamber music, and an important bridge between the Classical and Romantic eras.

We also hear Schubert’s String Trio D.471, a lyrical gem.
