I have a confession to make... I used to just complain about the smog and wait for the government to magically fix the weather. 😔

But after looking at what happened during the 1952 Great Smog in London, my entire perspective shifted. That historical event took thousands of lives in mere days because the air turned to poison. Sound familiar? Right now, Lahore is mirroring that exact nightmare.

We point fingers, but the truth is, steps are being taken. Electric buses are rolling out, and environmental squads are monitoring emissions. But the real gap? It's us. Every time we burn a pile of trash, take a solo car ride for a 5-minute trip, or use single-use plastics, we are feeding the toxic cloud over our city.

London cleared its skies by taking collective action. We can do the same, but it requires all of us to wake up.

I have a confession to make... I used to genuinely love the chilly winter "fog" in Lahore. 😔

But after riding my bike through the city this week, the reality hit me incredibly hard. What we are breathing isn't fog anymore; it’s "maut ki hawa" (the wind of death). Our AQI is hitting levels past 700.

I actually saw the Environmental Protection squads out there checking vehicle emissions, which is a fantastic step forward. But then I looked around our own streets: people are actively burning piles of trash, and guys are driving massive cars completely alone just to grab a quick bite. We are turning our own lungs black while pointing fingers at everyone else.

Lahore used to be known as the city of lively hearts, but right now, it's becoming the city of asthma patients. We have to start carpooling and stopping these street fires, or our next aesthetic picture is going to be in a hospital ward with an oxygen mask.
