💢 Third nerve palsy, also known as oculomotor nerve palsy, is a condition in which the third cranial nerve that controls eye movement becomes damaged or compressed.
This nerve is responsible for controlling the movements of several eye muscles, including those that move the eye up, down, and inward, and those that control the size of the pupil.
When the third nerve is damaged or compressed, the affected eye may not be able to move properly, causing double vision, drooping eyelid (ptosis), and an eye that is turned outward (exotropia).
Other symptoms may include difficulty focusing, eye pain, and headaches.
Third nerve palsy can be caused by a variety of factors, including head injury, aneurysms, tumors, infections, and diabetes.
Treatment will depend on the underlying cause and may include medications, surgery, or eye patches to relieve double vision.
Physical therapy and vision exercises may also be helpful in improving eye coordination and movement.
