کوئی میرا امام تھا ہی نہیں
میں کسی کا غلام تھا ہی نہیں

تم کہاں سے یہ بت اٹھا لائے
اس کہانی میں رام تھا ہی نہیں

جس قدر شور آب و گل تھا یہاں
اس قدر اہتمام تھا ہی نہیں

اس لیے سادھ لی تھی چپ میں نے
اس سے بہتر کلام تھا ہی نہیں

ہم نے اس وقت بھی محبت کی
جب محبت کا نام تھا ہی نہیں

تو کہاں راستے میں آ گئی ہے
زندگی تجھ سے کام تھا ہی نہیں

وقت نے لا کھڑا کیا اس جا
جو ہمارا مقام تھا ہی نہیں

اس لیے خاص کر دیا گیا عشق
عام لوگوں کا کام تھا ہی نہیں

شک تو تھا ہم کو، محبت میں خسارے ہوں گے
لیکن اندازہ نہ تھا، سب ہی ہمارے ہوں گے

اور کیا روشنی ہو گی شبِ ہجراں میں بھلا
جل اٹھیں گے سرِ مژگاں جو ستارے ہوں گے

صبح دم جو نئے منظر نظر آتے ہیں ہمیں
خونِ دل دے کے کسی نے یہ نکھارے ہوں گے

عشق گردی کو ہم اس شوق میں تنہا نکلے
رہ میں شاید ہمیں کچھ غیبی اشارے ہوں گے

کیا غرض ظلمتِ پیہم کو، اندھیرے اتنے
شب گزیدوں نے بھلا کیسے گزارے ہوں گے

ہم سمجھتے تھے کہ ٹھہرائیں گے کشتی کو جہاں
منتظر بس وہیں دریا کے کنارے ہوں گے

خاک کے پتلے میں رعنائی کہاں سے آتی
خال و خد ہاتھ سے خالق نے سنوارے ہوں گے

جل کے دل خاک یا کندن ہوا ہو گا پہلے
لفظ تو بعد میں کاغذ پہ اتارے ہوں گے

اس غلط فہمی میں مارے گئے دشمن اپنے
برف کی تہہ میں کہاں کوئی شرارے ہوں گے​۔
