Fall is finally here, which means it’s time for one of my absolute favorite holidays on the Wheel of the Year. Mabon marks the second harvest—a time centered around gratitude, abundance, and cosmic balance. Since the equinox brings perfectly equal daylight and nightfall, I’m using this week to reset my life, get cozy, and welcome the darker months with intention.

If you want to prepare your home and spirit alongside me, here is the ultimate Mabon checklist 🌾✨ (Save this for later!):
🧹 STEP 1: CLEANSE & RESET Clear out physical summer clutter and use sage, cedar, or rosemary to refresh the energy in your home.
🕯️ STEP 2: BUILD A HARVEST ALTAR Swap out your decor for rich earth tones. Decorate with apples, acorns, pumpkins, fallen leaves, amber candles, and symbols of balance.
🍞 STEP 3: BAKE & BREW GROUNDING FOODS Prepare seasonal bounty like roasted root vegetables, butternut squash soup, or fresh apple cinnamon bread. Don’t forget warm spiced cider or mulled wine!
✍️ STEP 4: EQUINOX BALANCE & GRATITUDE Take time to journal about everything you’ve “harvested” this year—goals achieved, lessons learned, and where you need to restore balance in your life.

​What Lughnasadh / Lammas Represents
​The First Harvest: It is a celebration of the initial bounty of the earth—specifically grain, wheat, corn, and summer fruits.

​Honoring the Sun & Earth: In modern Wiccan traditions, it represents the turning point where the sun's power begins to wane, and the effort of planting turns into the reward of harvesting.

​Lugh (Celtic Tradition): In Celtic Paganism, the festival is named after the sun god Lugh, who traditionally established the festival as a funeral game and feast in honor of his foster mother, Tailtiu, who died of exhaustion clearing Ireland's fields for agriculture.

​Lammas (Anglo-Saxon Tradition): The name comes from "Loaf Mass," a historic agricultural tradition of baking the first loaf of bread from the newly harvested grain and offering it in blessing.

​How It Is Celebrated Today:

​Baking Bread: Making homemade bread, corn cakes, or baked goods from scratch to share with family or community.

​Making Corn Dollies: Weaving husks or wheat stalks into traditional figures (dolls or braided symbols) to honor the harvest spirits.

​Gratitude & Reflection: Giving thanks for what has grown in life so far this year (projects, personal growth, material abundance).
