It definitely looks like winter has arrived in full force! The **Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD)** has indeed confirmed a significant cold spell starting today, **January 21, 2026**, which is expected to last through the weekend.

January is climatologically the coldest month in Qatar, and this current "cold snap" is being driven by a Siberian high-pressure system bringing those sharp northwesterly winds.

# # # Weather Highlights: Jan 21–24, 2026

* **Temperature Drop:** Expect daytime highs to hover around **19°C**, with nighttime lows dipping to **12°C–14°C**. In open desert areas, it may feel even colder.
* **The Wind Chill Factor:** Fresh to strong northwesterly winds (the *Shamal*) will make the "apparent temperature" feel several degrees lower than what the thermometer shows.
* **Marine Alert:** A warning is active for offshore activities. Expect high waves reaching **4–8 feet**, occasionally rising to **11 feet**. It is best to avoid boat trips or jet skiing until the winds subside.

---

# # # Stay Safe & Warm

* **Layer Up:** If you are heading to the Corniche or an outdoor park in the evening, a windbreaker or a medium-weight jacket is essential.
* **Check on Plants/Pets:** The sudden drop and dry winds can affect sensitive plants or outdoor pets; consider bringing them to sheltered areas.
* **Driving Caution:** Strong winds can sometimes kick up dust in open areas, reducing visibility on highways like Salwa Road or Al Shamal Road.

It’s the perfect weather for a hot Karak and a desert bonfire (safely, of course!).

Reviewers say 'The Godfather' is acclaimed for its intricate narrative, deep character exploration, and universal themes of power, family, and loyalty. The film's deliberate pacing, iconic performances by Marlon Brando and Al Pacino, and its significant influence on the gangster genre are often lauded. Critics also praise the cinematography, memorable score by Nino Rota, and its cultural impact. However, some reviewers find it overrated, slow-moving, or morally ambiguous, reflecting a spectrum of opinions.

Kuboos (or Kubus) is an Arabic-style pita bread often served with hummus, falafel, or used for making shawarma. The recipe typically involves flour, yeast, water, and oil.
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour (plain flour)
1 cup whole wheat flour (optional, you can use all all-purpose)
1 tbsp instant dry yeast
1 tsp sugar (or honey)
1/2 cup warm water
1/2 cup warm milk (or water)
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp olive oil (plus extra for greasing the bowl)
Instructions
Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water, warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Mix well and let it sit for about 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
Combine dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flours and salt. It is important not to let the salt come into direct contact with the yeast mixture initially, as salt can inhibit yeast activity.
Knead the dough: Pour the activated yeast mixture and the olive oil into the flour mixture. Knead the dough well, adding a little more warm water or flour if needed, until it forms a soft and elastic dough.
First rise: Lightly grease a large bowl with oil. Place the dough ball in the bowl and turn it over to coat all sides with oil. Cover the bowl with a clean cloth or plastic wrap and leave it in a warm place for a minimum of 1-2 hours, or until the dough has doubled in size.
Shape the bread: Once the dough has risen, punch down the air and divide it into 10–12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a smooth ball.
Roll out: On a lightly floured surface, take each ball and roll it out into a thin, round circle, similar to a chapatti or roti. Ensure the thickness is consistent.
Cook the kuboos: Heat a non-stick pan or tawa over medium heat. Place the rolled dough onto the hot surface. Cook for a few seconds until you see small bubbles forming on the top.
Flip and puff: Carefully flip the kuboos over. Use a spatula to gently press down on the edges. The bread should start puffing up like a balloon. Flip it one more time if needed to cook both sides evenly.
Serve: Remove the fully puffed kuboos from the pan and serve it warm with your favorite dips or fillings. You can find recipes for classic Hummus to pair with it.
