I am pretty sure If you have been trying to lose weight or doing fitness for a long time, you have heard of these terms "Starvation mode" or "Metabolic Damage". This myth basically revolve around being in a caloric deficit for too long and the body gain weight instead of losing weight.
Before we begin this topic, lets first look at the people starving in third world because they are the people who are really starving. Do they look fat? There is also a research in the 40's (which I don't think will pass any ethical clearance in the modern age) where they actually starve a group of men in Minnesota and the results seem like pictures from your worst nightmare.
But why do people gain weight after they stick to a lower calorie diet for a long time? Although metabolic damage and starvation mode is false but metabolic adaption is real!
What is metabolic adaptation? Basically there is this hypothesis called the thrifty metabolic genes where our ancestors live in a world where food is scarce. And this develops metabolic adaption which allows them to conserve energy for survivability. However, in the modern age where food is readily available, cause the storage of energy to be converted to fats.
So even though people are consuming lower calories, their body might be lowering their energy expenditure subconsciously and sending them irresistible hunger signals. This will cause them to take in more calories than they actually burn! But how do we fix this? Re-feed of course! I will go more in depth on this topic another day! Stay tune till then! 🙂

You must have heard as long as you workout hard enough you can burn the calories you consume. That is not wrong but it is difficult and time consuming. Imagine eating a McDonald Supreme Breakfast, that would be 1000kcals which is very much equivalent to 5 times of 2.4km run at speed 14 on the treadmill! So next time be conscious of what you eat and don't over eat!
