PUBLIC ALERT: FATAL FLOOD-RELATED INCIDENT - GODERICH, FREETOWN

The Office of the Medical Examiner - OME, Ministry of Internal Affairs, through its Disaster Victims Identification - DVI Directorate, regrets to announce a fatal disaster that occurred on Monday 3rd August, 2026 at First Grave Garden, Kailahun Court Barry, Metchem, Goderich, Freetown.
Incident Summary
Following hours of heavy rainfall, severe flooding triggered the collapse of a cement structure/fence onto a nearby dwelling. The incident tragically resulted in the loss of three lives.
Details of Confirmed Deceased
1. Namina Bangura - 65 years, Female
2. Satuma Koroma - 20 years, Female
3. Anita Kanu - 7 years, Female
All victims resided at First Grave Garden, Kailahun Court Barry, Metchem, Goderich, Freetown.
Current Status and Response
The remains of the deceased have been conveyed to the 34 Military Hospital Mortuary - Wilberforce, and are in the custody of OME. Medico-legal post-mortem examinations will be conducted to establish the official cause of death and to complete all statutory procedures.
The DVI Directorate is actively coordinating with the relevant emergency and humanitarian response institutions to ensure the timely recovery, dignified identification, documentation, and management of the deceased in line with national disaster protocols.

The Office of the Medical Examiner extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and the affected community during this period of grief.
In light of the ongoing rainy season, the public is strongly urged to:
1. Exercise extreme caution during heavy rainfall.
2. Evacuate low-lying and structurally vulnerable areas.
3. Report any buildings or structures at risk of collapse to local authorities and emergency service

The deceased is Currently being Preserved at the Rokupa Government Hospital Mortuary Pending Identification and the notification of his next of kin.

*ASSETS DECLARATION TRAINING FOR OCME STAFF CONDUCTED BY THE ANTI-CORRUPTION COMMISSION*
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) wishes to inform the general public that on *Wednesday, 17th June 2026*, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) conducted a comprehensive online training on Assets Declaration for staff of the OCME.
The training which took place at 14 Gloucester Street, targeted all staff from Grade 7 and above and was delivered virtually through the ACC’s online Assets Declaration platform. It focused on enhancing understanding of the legal requirements, procedures, and ethical obligations under the *Anti-Corruption Act No. 12 of 2008 (as amended)*, as well as a step-by-step guidance on completing declarations using the new digital system.
This initiative reinforces OCME’s commitment to transparency, integrity, and compliance with the national anti-corruption standards as part of its mandate under the Medical Examiners Act No. 4 of 2021.
