Pitting Edema Grading Made Simple

When assessing pitting edema, remember:

1+ (Mild): 2 mm pit, rebounds immediately
2+ (Moderate): 4 mm pit, rebound in 10–15 seconds
3+ (Deep): 6 mm pit, rebound > 1 minute
4+ (Severe): 8 mm pit, rebound takes 2–5 minutes

Accurate edema grading helps with early detection of cardiac, renal, and vascular issues. Small assessments make a big difference in patient outcomes.

The 7-layer incision process in a cesarean section is a sequence of cutting and separating the mother's body layers until they reach the uterus to deliver the baby. The incisions are made in stages and controlled by medical personnel.
Layers of the incision in a cesarean section:

🔷 Skin
The first incision is made in the outermost layer of abdominal skin, usually horizontally above the p***c hairline.
🔷 Fatty tissue (subcutaneous tissue)
After the skin is opened, the doctor cuts the underlying fatty and connective tissue.
🔷 Fascia
Fascia is strong connective tissue. This layer is carefully separated to allow access to the abdominal muscles.
🔷 Abdominal muscles
The abdominal muscles are not cut, but are separated to access the abdominal cavity, which is then returned to its original position after the baby is born.
🔷 Peritoneum
The thin layer lining the abdominal cavity and the organs within it is opened to access the uterus.
🔷 Perimetrium (outer layer of the uterus)
The outermost layer of the uterine wall is incised to provide access to the uterus.
🔷 Uterus
Finally, an incision is made in the uterus to safely deliver the baby.
