CDF Gen. Santino Deng Wol declares end to renewed hostilities between SSPDF and SPLA-IO

Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen. Santino Deng Wol has declared that the era of renewed hostilities between the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) and SPLA-IO forces is over, following his reappointment and resumption of command of the national army.

Speaking after resuming his duties, Gen. Santino warmly and wholeheartedly welcomed his deputy, Gen. Koang Gatkuoth Kerjiok, who also serves as the Acting SPLA-IO Chief of General Staff (COGS), in what observers view as a significant gesture toward military cooperation and stability.

Police vow to arrest man over assault of rickshaw rider in Juba

The spokesperson of the National Police Service has vowed to track down and arrest a man identified as Richard Ruai Kuol, an alleged police officer captured in a viral video assaulting a rickshaw rider in Juba on Tuesday afternoon.

The video, which circulated widely on social media on May 5, shows the suspect reportedly a captain in the South Sudan Police Service repeatedly beating a man believed to be a rickshaw rider as he lay on the ground. After the incident, the suspect is seen returning to his car, which had a damaged side mirror.

While the exact circumstances remain unclear, eyewitnesses say the confrontation may have been triggered after the rider allegedly broke the vehicle’s side mirror.

According to reports by Eye Radio, National Police Spokesperson Maj. Gen. Daniel Justin strongly condemned the act, stressing that no one is above the law.

“In such cases, the victim should open a case. If his side mirror is broken, he must file a complaint and allow the law to take its course. He cannot take the law into his own hands, whether he is CID or not, to beat a citizen. The law is very clear,” he said.

Maj. Gen. Daniel further emphasized that even if the suspect had filed a complaint, he would still face arrest for assault.

“Our laws are very strict on how civilians should be treated. We do not tolerate such behaviour,” he added.

He also urged members of the public to report any incidents of harassment or misconduct by security personnel to the appropriate authorities.
