Businessman Madieu Dieu produces 1,400 bags of sorghum in Warrap State, advocates for agriculture
In a major agricultural success, businessman Anthony Madieu Dieu, the founder and CEO of MDD General Trading Co. Ltd, has harvested 1,400 bags of sorghum from his farms in Ajogo Payam, Gogrial East County, Warrap State.
The large-scale production, valued at over SSP 600 million, is set to bring significant financial returns, demonstrating the potential of agriculture to boost the local economy.
Madieu emphasized that farming is a crucial tool for addressing South Sudan’s economic crisis.
“I urge everyone to focus on agriculture as the main tool to fight the economic crisis in the country. When I started this farm, I knew it would be beneficial despite the flooding that destroyed part of it. I am glad it will pay back the money I invested in cultivation and manpower. Sorghum is always valuable in the market,” he stated.
Beyond financial gains, Madieu highlighted the role of his farm in job creation for local youth.
“My farm has provided jobs for young men in the area. If more people engage in farming, we won’t just profit as business owners but also help create employment opportunities for young people. We must contribute to economic stability and job creation,” he added.
Warrap State is expected to face food shortages in the coming months due to last year’s severe flooding. Experts warn that food prices may rise significantly between May and August, increasing the urgency for agricultural investments like Madieu’s.
Madieu's success story serves as a call to action for more entrepreneurs to invest in agriculture as a sustainable solution to food security and economic challenges in South Sudan.
