University of Juba students call for ban on fi****ms on campus
Students at the University of Juba are urging the administration to ban fi****ms on campus, saying the presence of guns puts lives at risk.
The call follows growing concern in recent days, led by a student who wrote in a shared Facebook post: “The university of Juba administration should not allow guns at the campus. The university is not a military barracks.” He posted.
Students say there are no consistent checks at campus gates, allowing armed individuals to enter freely.
Some students are asking the university to enforce a clear “no-fi****ms” policy for all students and visitors, strengthen gate screening, and communicate safety rules more clearly.
The concerns come as South Sudan faces rising violence. In recent days, there has been multiple reports of armed violence attacks in Juba, highlighting the risks posed by widespread access to weapons.
Students say the university administration should act quickly to keep the campus safe and focused on learning.

𝐉𝐔𝐁𝐀, 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐂𝐇 𝟐𝟐, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 — His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit has returned to Juba following an official and productive visit to the Republic of South Africa.
His Excellency the President was received at Juba International Airport by a large crowded of youths and women who expressed their support to the outcomes of the successful visit of the President and his accompanying delegation to South Africa
The visit served as a direct follow-up to the C5 Plus engagement chaired by President Cyril Ramaphosa, with a strong focus on advancing peace implementation, elections, and bilateral cooperation.
Engagements during the visit were conducted at two levels. At the Head of State level, both sides reaffirmed the key C5 Plus resolutions: no extension of the transitional period, proceeding with elections as scheduled, continued dialogue on election-related issues, and respect for the non-interference of judicial processes. At the bilateral level, discussions focused on revitalizing the Cooperation Agreement to deepen relations across priority sectors.
H.E. the President of the Republic of South Sudan and his delegation held high-level meetings with H.E. President Cyril Ramaphos, Deputy President Paul Mashatile and senior South African officials, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Africa Desk, as well as international relations advisors and facilitation teams supporting South Sudan.
The discussions placed strong emphasis on the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement, inclusive dialogue, and preparations for credible elections. President Kiir reiterated South Sudan’s readiness to proceed with elections, reaffirming his commitment to peace, security, and democratic progress.

Makuei declines to consider petition on Benjamin Bol Mel, cites “impolite” language and media leak
The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Michael Makuei Lueth, has declined to consider a petition filed on behalf of former Vice President Benjamin Bol Mel, citing what he described as disrespectful language and the premature circulation of the document in the media.
The petition, submitted by city lawyer Kiir Chol through Kiirdit & Co. Advocates, challenges the continued house arrest of Benjamin without being arraigned in court for several months.
In a formal response dated 11 March 2026, Makuei acknowledged receipt of the petition but raised strong objections to its tone, stating that the document was “written in a disrespectful, impolite and uncouth language that is unbecoming and not acceptable in all standards.”
He further faulted the legal team for what he described as the publicization of the matter, noting that the petition was shared on social media on the same day it was submitted, turning it into “an issue for public discussion and judgement.”
“As a result, it is no longer in the hands of the Ministry,” the minister said.
Makuei added that the case of Benjamin will not be considered unless Kiirdit & Co. Advocates first submit a written explanation and apology addressing both the tone of the petition and how it was leaked to the media. He also demanded clarification on who was responsible for making the document public.
It remains unclear whether advocate Kiir Chol will comply with the minister’s demands. Efforts to reach him for comment were unsuccessful by press time.
