Before electric scooters existed, Mazda engineers were literally driving around in a suitcase 😭🧳

Back in 1991, a group of seven Mazda engineers were challenged to build something small, portable, and actually drivable. About a year later, they revealed one of the weirdest inventions in car history: a fully functional mini vehicle that folded inside a Samsonite suitcase.

The tiny three wheeled machine could hit speeds of nearly 19 mph using a 33.6cc two stroke engine. It had headlights, turn signals, brakes, and even handlebars that folded neatly into the luggage. The entire thing could reportedly be assembled in about 60 seconds.

The idea was originally meant to help people move through large airports faster, but the “Mazda Suitcase Car” never entered production. Still, decades later, it remains one of the coolest “why does this even exist?” creations ever built.

For just shy of four years, this page has shared mostly positive stories from Sangre Grande, often to a much smaller audience than we now have. Many of you watched quietly from the sidelines without engaging. Yet now, some of the same people tell me what I should be posting. Sometimes politely, other times as a directive. Lately, some approach with a sense of entitlement.

I have spoken before about issues that are not pleasant or popular—roadworks, noise pollution, public facilities, and other everyday realities of life in Sangre Grande that aren’t so pretty. Those posts received little engagement or support. That matters, because it shows some people only care when something affects them personally. And I am not about to be drinking bush tea every Monday morning for everybody fever.

When I post here, it carries my name and my responsibility. I must be able to stand behind it publicly and, if necessary, legally. That’s why I follow a simple rule taught by the late Sterling Henderson: when in doubt, leave out.

Consistency is also key. If I highlight bad roads, do I call out those responsible, even if they are connected to people you support or hold in high regard? If I speak about homelessness, crime, addiction, or mental health—issues visible in the heart of Grande—do I also apply that same spotlight to institutions and families? These are not simple lines to draw.

What is shared here is guided by conviction, not pressure or the need to align with any posse. I post only when I am confident in what I am putting forward. Otherwise, I focus on the light. This is not about fear or favoritism. I favor none more than the other, even when that neutrality has worked against Life in Sangre Grande.

I know some of you mean well. Others do not. I understand your frustration and angst—I live it too. But it is very much misdirected!
