We are pleased to share the findings from the recent waste survey and litter audit carried out in Funafuti. This important work was made possible through the SWAP2 project and Pacific Ocean Litter Project (POLP), implemented by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP).
Presenting the findings: Ms Miriama Taukiei
The data collected will help strengthen our waste management planning, improve resource recovery, and support practical solutions for our island. With limited land and growing waste challenges, having reliable information is essential for protecting our fenua (land) and moana (ocean).
Fakafetai lahi and let us keep our shores and land clean and beautiful.

Malo & Congratulations to Sei Tuvalu 2026, Siatunu Limau! 👑

The Department of Waste Management proudly congratulates you on being crowned Sei Tuvalu 2026.

Your outstanding response during the final interview, particularly your message on plastic pollution, demonstrated true leadership and environmental stewardship. Your closing words reminded us all that:

"Plastics are polluting our ocean and waters and poisoning our fish."

This is a message that resonates deeply with our mission. Thank you for using your platform to raise awareness about the importance of proper plastic waste management and protecting the environment for future generations.

We have heard your voice, and we look forward to continuing to work towards a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Tuvalu.

We wish you every success as you begin your journey towards Miss Pacific 2026. May you continue to inspire, lead with purpose, and proudly represent Tuvalu on the regional stage.

Fakafetai lasi, and all the very best! 🌺🇹🇻♻️
