Yesterday marked the centennial celebration of Chiayi High School, a moment filled with nostalgia and emotion for me.
Having left the campus for 35 years, returning to this familiar ground was deeply meaningful. Moreover, being honored with the 14th Outstanding Alumni Award added a layer of significance to me!
Also our distinguished alumni such as former Vice President of Taiwan Xiao and former Premier Chang graced the event with their presence. It was also noteworthy that the incoming Minister of Health and Welfare, Professor Chiu , is also an outstanding alumnus, showcasing the school’s legacy of producing remarkable talents.
Reflecting on my education at Chiayi High School, I am reminded of its invaluable impact on my life.
Renowned for its quality education and diverse campus culture, Chiayi High School has long been hailed as the cradle of doctors and government officials. The school’s ethos of “rigorous and pragmatic” is deeply ingrained in the hearts of all students who have passed through its gates.
Yesterday, as I sat among former principals, senior alumni, and classmates, memories flooded back. I recalled the wise and compassionate guidance of teacher Wu Luo-gui, who not only imparted academic knowledge but also instilled in me the confidence and determination to navigate life’s challenges.
His teachings continue to serve as a guiding principle in my life and in educating the next generation.
Beyond the mentorship of teachers, I cherish the camaraderie forged with classmates during those formative years. As we gather today, each of us has pursued diverse paths, achieving remarkable success in fields such as chairpersons, secretaries of society ,famous architects, school principals, university professors, department director , and more.
The bonds of friendship formed during those three years of high school are not only treasured memories of youth but also among the most precious assets in my life.
Today, standing amidst the grandeur of the school’s centennial celebration, I am filled with profound pride and gratitude.
Chiayi High School, as the premier high school in the Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan region, holds countless stories and memories. To have been a part of this legacy is the greatest honor of my life.
