After the resolutions and goals regarding exercise, diet, and finances get put on paper, one of the other most common goals people put out there is to travel more.

While a third of Americans have a passport and a lot more travel on road trips, the vacation deficit is still deplorable, despite an unemployment rate that’s about as low as it can possibly get. People are still so afraid of losing their lousy job that they’re sitting on vacation days they’ve never used.

1. Using two mugs to drink coffee
When the automatic warmer in my coffee maker shuts off and the coffee isn’t as hot as I’d like it to be, I grab two mugs — one mug that I use in the microwave to warm up the coffee, and a second “fancy mug,” which I pour the hot coffee into and drink from.

Now, I could save a step and just drink directly from the first mug…but it’s too hot to hold when it comes out of the microwave, LOL!

2. Pretending I’m the cat paw-parazzi
Why do I derive so much joy out of taking covert pictures of Tabs?? I like to hide behind the couch or peek around corners to catch him in the act of…doing something. These days, it’s usually just him napping (because he’s old), but it’s still weirdly fun.

Rosie is also a huge proponent of frequent treat consumption, and she’s all about chicken Temptations. She gets some every other night, and she can tell when it’s her treat day (we call it Ladies’ Night). She’ll follow me into the kitchen and block the doorway until the treats magically appear.
She sent us to Target today to scope out looks for her Halloween outfit, and while we were there we saw the treats.

We’re usually a family that gets the bagged treats, but this time we brought home the giant 16-ounce tub.

Executive teams are very familiar with using KPIs (key performance indicators) to track recent corporate success. I saw myself doing a cool daytime friendly smokey lid or a super sharp cat eyes.If I’m lucky, I get maybe 10 or 15 minutes to get ready. Yesterday morning I only had five.Seriously, the pieces I bought from Ilia have been saving my butt, though. No joke. Oh, and the Chanel brow pencil of course. Maybe next week will be the week I do something fun like glitter on my lids? I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed.

I’ve already had a few assignments and even turned in my first deliverable this week. Oh, and if I could toot my own horn a little bit, I turned it in early. TOOT-TOOT!It’s been a while since I’ve started a new job, and I’m only just now remembering how low-key terrifying it is! You don’t know anything or anybody, what people have been working on, and, of course, there are those moments when you wonder, “Am I going to be able to do this?”

On message boards when I see someone asking, “What’s the best place for American expats to live in?”, what they’re often really asking is, “Where can I move to that’s already full of people like me?” Or “Where are the expat communities?”Moving abroad can be a scary proposition for some people, especially those Americans who haven’t traveled much internationally, so there’s some comfort in knowing they can move somewhere and find plenty of others who speak their language.
