I Always Get Complimented On: This Skin-Tone-Enhancing Setting Powder
My life changed when I learned how to properly use setting powder. Though this sounds like a sort of hyperbole, it’s really not such an exaggeration—particularly when I discovered Beauty Bakerie’s setting powder. Understanding how to properly use the powders I saw beauty gurus wax on about—for their ability to control shine, lock makeup in place, and prevent oiliness—is what gave my makeup that professionally done oomph I longed for.

Per the brand, the powder is designed to “noticeably blur your pores and soften your complexion, leaving you with a beautiful, matte finish.” And while this may sound like a holy grail product, it lives up to the promise. In terms of its blending powers, it’s a far cry from those options that left a white cast on my face when I was first getting into setting powders. Plus, Beauty Bakerie offers a wide shade range. As a Black woman, I struggled to find a powder that wouldn’t wash out my warm, golden undertones, but with the brand’s Plantain shade, somehow the powder brings more warmth to my skin.

Paired with my foundation, the powder allows me to not only set my look but brighten my undereye, chin, and the spot between my brows on my forehead. I’ve found that using a tinted powder slightly lighter, yet still warm, allows me to control different tones across my face with precision—a game-changing discovery.
