The asana is named after Hanuman– one of the main characters of the ancient epic "Ramayana". Anjaneya is the name given to him by his mother Anjani. The pose imitates another interpretation of his famous incredible jump from the continent across the sea to the island of Lanka. Almost the entire life of Hanuman was devoted to selfless service to the chosen deity - Rama. His supernatural abilities were manifested only when he performed actions with sincerity and devotion to Rama. Similarly, a yoga practitioner is able to cultivate the best qualities of a person in himself if his activity is aimed at the benefit of creation and development of the surrounding world.
