Easy percentage method

100% − 35% = 65% are not fiction.

Find 65% of 480:

10% of 480 = 48
60% = 48 × 6 = 288
5% = half of 10% = 24

So:

65% = 288 + 24 = 312

Answer: 312 books are not fiction.

Solution:

First, calculate the driving time:

Time = Distance ÷ Speed

220 ÷ 50 = 4.4 hours

Convert 0.4 hours into minutes:

0.4 × 60 = 24 minutes

So, the driving time was 4 hours 24 minutes.

Joe also stopped for 30 minutes for breakfast:

4 hours 24 minutes + 30 minutes = 4 hours 54 minutes

He arrived at 11:45.

11:45 − 4 hours 54 minutes = 06:51

✅ Joe left home at 6:51 am.

A prime number is a number greater than 1 with exactly two factors: 1 and itself (like 2, 3, 5).

The number 1 only has one factor, so it’s not prime.
Composite numbers have more than two factors (like 4 or 6).

If 1 were prime, it would break the rule that every number has one unique prime factorisation - maths would get messy.

Simple rules, big reasons ✨

Ever wondered why something so basic like 1 doesn’t quite belong? 🤔

Example:
Solve 48 × 25

In maths, there is often more than one correct way to solve a problem.

Method 1 - Traditional multiplication
Method 2 - Break it apart:
48 × 25 = (50 × 25) - (2 × 25)
Method 3 - Use fractions:
25 = 100 ÷ 4
So:
48 × 25 = 4800 ÷ 4 = 1200

Why is this important?

Because strong maths students don’t just memorise steps - they understand patterns and choose the method that makes the most sense.

When students learn multiple strategies, they become:
1. faster
2. more confident
3. better at problem-solving

Maths is not about memorising one path.
It’s about learning how to think.

First work out the time for each part using:

time= distance \ speed

Cycling

30/24= 1.25 hours

0.25 hours = 15 minutes
So cycling time = 1 hour 15 minutes

Running

12/8 = 1.5 hours

0.5 hours = 30 minutes
So running time = 1 hour 30 minutes

Total time

* Hours: 1 + 1 = 2
* Minutes: 15 + 30 = 45

✅ Total time = 2 hours 45 minutes

In the British system, most final grades come from standardized exams, not just teacher opinion. Clear marking schemes and criteria are used, so students know exactly what is expected to get each grade.

Exams are often checked by external examiners, which reduces bias and keeps results consistent across different schools.

It’s not about “who likes you more” - it’s about how well you meet the set criteria.
