THEY’RE BACK!!! 5/18/22 from 1pm to 3pm the Scrub Bus will be setting up directly outside the main entrance at Caring Acres. This is open to everyone in the community so feel free to swing up and have fun shopping!!!

Staff: we will be doing payroll deduction for your purchases out of the 6/10 & 6/25 pay days.
CDC is updating its recommendations to allow certain immunocompromised individuals and people over the age of 50 who received an initial booster dose at least 4 months ago to be eligible for another mRNA booster to increase their protection against severe disease from COVID-19

As a vaccine provider with the State of Iowa we will be able to administer these boosters onsite like we have in the past. We've already requested vaccine transfer from the state which will be picked up first part of next week.

Please keep an eye out for a phone call as our team will be contacting families starting tomorrow 3/31 that has loved ones that are eligible to discuss the boosters. We've been able to see first hand the success of these vaccines with achieving 100% vaccine rates for resident and 100% vaccine for staff. Of the small few that did test positive throughout the last 26 months NONE became critically ill with most have little to no symptoms. We contribute this success to the vaccines and the hard work our team does every day in combatting this ongoing pandemic that is hitting our globe and their tireless efforts to staying on top of latest guidance and responding quickly to changes.

Our [email protected] email is still up and running for any questions or you can always give us a call at 712-762-3219.
Team: The Home Sweet Home shirts have arrived and are ready for pickup in the basement office. We also ordered some extra if you missed the order deadline.
Tired of waiting in lines or unable to get into a clinic to be tested? Starting today you can now order for delivery At-Home covid tests. Please keep in mind these take a couple weeks to arrive but they have longer expirations so you could keep them in your medicine cabinet for future use if need be.
The main parking lot is OPEN again for all visitors and staff. Thank you for your patience so we could assess and ensure there was minimal risk from the high winds and clean items up.
Storm update: Building is in tact with no issues affecting the inside or safety of any residents or staff! Staff did an amazing job responding quickly to the tornado warning getting residents to safety while also keeping proper masking and infection control in mind. The metal facia on the South-West side of Hall 1 did come loose during the 80+ mph winds but no other issues to report. Shout out to Anita Supply Center for their quick jump to action to get us sand bags (these are to help put some weight on the facia as the wind keeps pushing through) and Sean Chamberlin for coming over to help screw the sides back down. Being the main parking lot is right there and with high winds still expected the main parking lot has been closed as a precaution and parking is available behind the building.
Team: Today’s the day you’ve been waiting for and it’s definitely a day you won’t want to miss from presents, awards, food, game prizes, and a gift to take home to your families. We look forward to seeing everyone at 2pm today. Make sure to use the basement entrance and test prior to attending.
Team: Don’t forget that next Wednesday 12/15 at 2:00pm in the Staff Training Area will be the staff Christmas Event. Lots of food, gifts that have been hand picked and wrapped by our owner Kris, awards, and games. Don’t forget to screen in and complete testing through the basement entrance. Can’t wait to see everyone!

Also want to send a thank you Cass Health Immunization Team and Cass County Public Health for completing the vaccine transfer request so quickly. Today we transition to starting the Pfizer Covid19 Vaccine booster clinic for all eligible staff.

We also would like to take a moment and give a big SHOUT OUT and THANK YOU to the staff members that have taken the step forward to being vaccinated. Pfizer - Covid19 - Booster Clinic happens this week!

Many resident families have already been contacted and we only have a couple more to go that are eligible for the Covid19 vaccine booster. You may be wondering how we have accomplished this clinic so quickly being this was just approved. What many people don’t realize is that Caring Acres is an approved vaccine provider with the State of Iowa – something not common across the nursing home community but something that is picking up traction which is great to see. Our team from the beginning sought out this approval as a way to bridge the gap in administering vaccines timely to our community and took the necessary steps to gain approval where they reviewed our submission plans, planning info, storage capacity and what equipment is used before the approval would be granted. Approval was granted which has allowed us to work with local partners and the state in accepting, storing, and administering covid19 vaccines. With a specialized cooling unit with battery backup giving us options to either freeze or refrigerate the vaccine based on manufacture specifications, constant temperature monitoring station with sms, email, and audible alarm notifications if the temps fall outside of the specific ranges for each vaccine, a backup cooling unit in the event our primary unit fails, surveillance monitoring, and a biometric door control you can ensure that all necessary steps are taken to ensure each vaccine doses viability.

We also know there is a lot of information floating around regarding boosters so we wanted to give a quick update.

Covid19 boosters for Pfizer only gained approval end of last week and are currently available to those that are 65 and over, all nursing home residents, people aged 50-64 years with underlying medical conditions, people ages 18-49 with underlying medical conditions, people ages 18-64 who are at increased risk for Covid19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting. You must also have received your vaccine at least 6 months prior.

Other approved covid19 vaccines which include Moderna and Johnson& Johnson (Janssen) have yet to be approved for a booster. Moderna has submitted their filing to the FDA seeking booster approval and Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) has not submitted their booster info yet. Pfizer also completed trials and has submitted to the FDA review to extend the age range to include ages 5 to 11 which could happen in the month of October.

All nursing homes are still faced with the grappling information that community spread is extremely high. Writing this information today 9/27/21 Cass County rates as posted through the CDC Covid Data Tracker is sitting at 26.09% community spread. One of the highest numbers we have seen. If you have not been vaccinated yet we urge you to find the nearest vaccine location and get vaccinated or contact us at [email protected] and we will help you. If you aren’t wearing a mask in public or indoor spaces we urge you to do so. Together we will continue to fight this pandemic, we will continue to protect our community – our residents – our staff, and we will continue to work together towards the ultimate goal of getting back to life as we use to know it.

Big SHOUT OUT to everyone that made it to our 2nd Covid19 Vaccine clinic this past Sunday 1/24. It was another successful day for not only residents but also the staff as we all receive our final vaccine dose.

As Iowa moves into Phase 1b starting February 1st we wanted to take this opportunity and provide a direct link for vaccine information in Iowa. We also know there has been miscommunication regarding vaccines and who is eligible to receive them and when. 1b release includes multiple tiers of groups but we want to highlight ANYONE over the age of 65 is eligible to receive their vaccine during any tier through your local participating pharmacy, clinics, and public health offices.

The team at Caring Acres has also setup a dedicated Covid19 Vaccine email address as a way for you to reach us regarding covid19 vaccine questions. Our team continues to be dedicated in keeping all our members informed and will provide you with the most recent information and resources as we all work as one in fighting this pandemic together. Staff/Residents Vaccine Clinic Update: Our covid19 vaccine clinic today for staff and residents was a HUGE success and we are so very proud of our vaccine hero's that stepped up and spent a couple hours today with us doing vaccine clinic for the residents and staff. We had amazing pharmacists named Kim and Terese which we look forward to seeing again in 21 days on 1/24/2021 when we have our 2nd vaccine clinic for dose 2 of Pfizer. All staff and residents that signed up were able to receive their covid19 vaccines today and we had 0 wasted doses due to expert planning and communication from our team.

Both the Pfizer and Moderna come in a series of 2 doses. The Pfizer vaccine's 2nd dose is administered on day 21 and the Moderna vaccine's 2nd dose is administered on day 28. Both Pfizer and Moderna have been approved through an EUA here in the United States and we are thrilled to be able to offer this vaccine to our residents and staff. This is due to the tremendous work from our internal Caring Acres team, our Walgreens partner, and local public health agencies.

By receiving the covid19 vaccine this DOES NOT mean that you should stop wearing a mask, practicing social distancing, etc but it does mean that this is one major step forward for the U.S.A. and the world in the fight against covid19. The work is not over yet and it will still take more time towards reopening and getting back to normal but as more and more groups receive their covid19 vaccine and it becomes safer and safer, protocols/policies by the governing agencies will start to adapt so we want to thank you for your patience as we all fight for the same goal and protecting loved ones.

We want to again say THANK YOU to our vaccine hero's that stepped up to help fight this pandemic and THANK YOU for doing what's right in protecting loved ones both here in the nursing home and within your communities.

With Love,
Your Caring Acres Family
