Here are 5 ways to help with tightness anywhere on the body!

1️⃣ STRETCHING & MOBILITY EXERCISES

Most people know a stretch or two, but what are mobility exercises? They are like stretches but take your joint through more range of motion. Stretches are designed to put your muscles in a lengthened position, but that doesn't necessarily mean the joint goes through its full range of motion. Mobility Exercises give a little more focus to the joint and connective tissues around the joint.

2️⃣ STRENGTH TRAINING πŸ’ͺ🏽

Did this one surprise you? A lot of people think lifting weights will only make them tighter, but this isn't true! Your muscles crave strength and your joints crave stability. When your muscles aren't providing the stability your joints want, your body will tighten up everything around the joint instead, giving us that stiff feeling.

Strength training can include bodyweight fitness, using resistance bands, using weight machines, and lifting πŸ‹πŸΎβ€β™‚οΈ free weights.

3️⃣ MASSAGE πŸ’†πŸ»& STRETCH

Sometimes your muscles and connective tissues have been tight for so long, it's tough to figure out where to even start. Massage therapy or stretch therapy will reduce pain and myofascial tension and give you back some movement.

4️⃣ WATER WATER WATER πŸ₯€

Your muscles & connective tissues love water. When you are dehydrated, they stiffen up.

It is recommended to drink at least half your body weight in fl. oz. daily.

Weigh 140 lbs? Drink at least 70 fl oz of water daily.

5️⃣ PERFRCT POSTURE

Perfect posture won't keep tightness away. It's really about keeping moving. Sit some, stand some, walk some, stretch some.

Try to sit and stand with good posture, but the focus should be regular movement throughout the day.

Good morning! 🌞 Let's talk about Cupping Therapy!

Cupping therapy can be an effective way to reduce pain by loosening up tight superficial tissues and increasing blood flow to areas of ischemia (lacking blood flow). It's also used by some practitioners for energetic purposes similar to acupuncture.

It's important to know what to expect during a cupping session and to know what are normal results.

1️⃣ The most important thing to know is that the practitioner should never leave the room. They are to monitor 🧐 the changes in your skin the whole time. If the cups are left on too long, you could blister. If your practitioner goes to leave the room, insist they stay or remove the cups.

2️⃣ The cups don't need to be on longer than 10 minutes because there are no additional benefits. And when you get into the 20-30 minute range, that's blister territory. πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ

3️⃣ Pink-red-purple circles πŸ”΄πŸŸ£ left on your skin are a normal result and can take up to 2 weeks to disappear. (These circles are often referred to as "cupping blisters" & not to be confused with actual blisters)
Soreness for 2-3 days after cupping is normal, too.
However, blisters are NOT considered a normal result.

Cupping mistakes happen, and luckily the results aren't severe, but having the right info can help you to avoid unwanted effects and get all the good effects like reduced pain and better movement!

I love working with kids & teens!

Young people also experience muscle tension, injuries, and stress just like the rest of us, and massage therapy can help with all of these.

❓What does a customized massage therapy session look like for a young person?

Here's how I do it:

βœ… Shorter session - usually 30 mins is enough time to address the main complaint

βœ… Supervised - parents can choose to stay in the room or be nearby

βœ… Communication - informed consent is a must! These sessions can be vital in teaching the young person bodily autonomy and whatever they say, goes

βœ… Clothed - this helps with comfort level. Massage does not require un******ng or the use of lotion. A variety of techniques can be done while remaining dressed

βœ… Appropriate techniques & pressure - young people respond really well to gentler techniques & lighter pressure

πŸ’† I practice therapeutic massage - meaning there is usually a reason for the massage besides relaxation - pain relief, muscle tension relief, sports recovery, lymphatic drainage, etc. However, relaxation still plays a huge part in my practice.

πŸ™…πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ I do not believe in "no pain, no gain" when it comes to massage. If you can't stay relaxed and breathe through it, then it's too much pressure and your nervous system will jack up your stress hormones. The opposite of healing.

πŸ’™ I believe massage therapy is for everybody and every body. I've worked with people of all ages, sizes, levels of health, levels of mobility, etc.
