Lush Bath Bombs Are Not What You Think - Food Babe

foodbabe.com If you read ingredient lists like me, I hope that doesn’t stop at just food. Food chemicals are nasty, but the skincare and cosmetics industry is even worse. The FDA doesn’t regulate cosmetics as rigorously as pharmaceuticals or food – allowing companies to get away with using potentially harm...

Matcha green tea and kaolin clay bars

"Matcha is pulverized green tea, made from the entire leaf," says dermatologist Judith Hellman. "It contains catechins, a type of polyphenol, making it into a powerful antioxidant. The catechins help trap and inactivate free radicals in the skin, thus thwarting many of the signs of aging. The powder form is much more concentrated than the liquid form we drink." As for those skin-soothing claims? "Green tea is an amazing anti-inflammatory agent, so it helps treat rosacea and even acne," Hellman says. "Applying matcha directly to the skin, like in the form of a mask, is really effective. And it's also really easy to make a matcha mask."

Kaolin clay is the mildest of all clays and is suitable for all skin types- dry and oily. The clay contains high content of silica that helps in removing the dead skin and makes it to regenerate. This also purifies and detoxes the skin and makes it moist.

[01/30/18]   What are essential oils?
Essential oils are the highly concentrated version of the natural oils in plants that are extracted using the distillation process.

Do essential oils have therapeutic benefits?
Essential oils have been used throughout history in many cultures for their medicinal and therapeutic benefits.

While the oils are still in the plant, they provide the plants with protection against predators and disease, and also play a role in plant pollination. As these properties carry forward into the essential oils, folk medicine since ancient times has made use of essential oils in medicinal practices.
Many essential oils are believed to have an uplifting effect on the human’s mind; and many essential oils also have antiseptic properties, which means they reduce the possibility of infection when applied to the human skin.

Three favorites of essential oils for therapeutic benefits have been identified as:

Lavender – helps to alleviate stress, anxiety, irritability mental fatigue, panic attacks and depression, but also good for bruises and stretch marks.
Peppermint – helps with nausea, vertigo, and exhaustion and also good for headaches.
Frankincense – used for immune system stimulation and to help with asthma, coughing and bronchitis.
