Say hello to Nicole Degennaro, OTD, OTR/L. Nicole is celebrating her third year with Select Physical Therapy in the St. Cloud, FL community. Throughout the past several months, Nicole has been expanding her clinical knowledge and expertise of hand therapy, learning the ins and outs of the field. She is planning to sit for her certified hand therapist (CHT) exam later this year.

Nicole especially enjoys helping patients along their recovery journey, stating “Things that we so easily take for granted can have such a large impact on our physical and mental wellbeing when we are no longer able to complete them. Helping patients restore those abilities means the world to me!”

When Nicole is not studying for her CHT exam or helping patients in our centers, she is heavily involved in animal rescue. In April, Nicole earned a master’s degree in veterinary shelter medicine from the University of Florida. She one day hopes to open community resource centers for animals. We’re incredibly proud of Nicole for her hard work and thank her for the dedication she shows our patients and community every day. Good luck on your CHT exam, Nicole!

Get Loud Montage 1.2.mp4

Today on #NationalCancerSurvivorDay and throughout the month of June, we will honor nearly 17 million individuals and their families throughout the U.S. who are living with and beyond cancer. Life after cancer is something worth celebrating. And a better quality of life for ALL cancer survivors is worth fighting for.

The ReVital Cancer Rehabilitation team are committed to helping survivors live well beyond cancer and look forward to a time when no one who needs cancer rehabilitation will go without it.

Unfortunately, a majority of cancer survivors will experience late and lasting long-term effects of their cancer and its treatment. Yet less than 10 percent of patients who could benefit from cancer rehabilitation services will receive care. This is why we GET LOUD about CANCER REHAB, to raise awareness about the positive impact it can have on a person’s quality of life, from the point of diagnosis, during treatment and into survivorship. #NationalCancerSurvivorDay #NationalCancerSurvivorMonth #GETLOUD2021 #LivingWellBeyondCancer #CancerRehab

Our team in North Carolina has developed a wonderful program – The Select Veteran – for veteran patients who come to our centers for treatment, regardless of what insurance they may have. Upon completion of their plan of care, the veteran is awarded a certificate and challenge coin.

The coins our team are giving out are representative of each branch of the military, i.e. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard. The idea of giving a veteran patient a coin was developed by Chelli Langdon, business development manager (pictured). She comes from a long line of military family members and veteran team members and heard their stories from their time serving and the injuries sustained. It was humbling for her and she wanted to do something to honor their service.

The first recipient of The Select Veteran program was Asiasi Tinae, US Army veteran, who was treated in our Raleigh-Midtown location. Referred to Select by the VA, Asiasi completed his program on May 21, 2021. After he left his final appointment, Asiasi returned 30 minutes later with his daughter (who is his transportation) and granddaughter and brought Paige Cox, PTA, and Michelle Sapsara, P.T. and center manager (and a US Air Force veteran herself), a bouquet of flowers. You can’t see in the picture with Asiasi, but Michelle is smiling big and bright behind that mask!

Way to go, North Carolina team, on paying it forward to those have so selflessly served others. Keep up the great work.

While running is a great way to stay active, it can also put stress on the body. Consulting with a physical therapist can help determine if the pain you’re experiencing is from an injury or overuse so that you can work on healing: http://ow.ly/K7q350ELc1y.

Your hands touch a lot! Keep ‘em clean by practicing proper hand hygiene. As a reminder, here are the five handwashing steps recommended by the CDC. 🧼

1️.Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap and apply soap.
2️. Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers and under your nails.
3️. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
4️.Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
5️. Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.

Two car loving patients from our Virginia Beach, VA location, which offers both adult and pediatric physical therapy, have developed a special bond during their treatment sessions. While Mr. Phillip has a true passion for cars, David loves identifying cars by their brand symbol. When Mr. Phillip pulled up to physical therapy in his Maserati, David loved it so much, he considered it his own whenever he saw it. Needless to say, a fast friendship developed between them. After seeing David work hard in physical therapy, Mr. Phillip surprised David with his own red “Mazdarati,” as David calls it. It might be awhile before David can buy his own Maserati, but we think this one looks great parked next to Mr. Phillip’s!
