Cruciferous vegetables can increase natural testosterone levels:
Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, can increase testosterone levels, (UGH!, my mother has been right).
Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli contain a compound called "(-)epicatechin". (-)epicatechin is a strong "Aromatase Inhibitor). What is Aromatase. Aromatase is an enzyme which converts Testosterone to Estrogen. Women obviously have higher Aromatase levels than us guys. As we age Aromatase levels increase in us guys. Less physical activity, sedentary lifestyle and lowering of the Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) are seen with aging. Thus, adipose (Fat) increases as we age. Aromatase is very high in fat. This DROPS our natural testosterone levels BUT INCREASES in Estrogen is seen.
This can happy at any age. Sedentary, boys (Seen with those who play video games all day) on diets high in fat, become fat.
This will INCREASE Aromatase activity lowering their endogenous Testosterone levels and increasing the levels of estrogen. Giving these young boys "Female breasts". This is why. However, this is reversible, by exercise and increasing the amount of cruciferous vegetables (broccoli) in their diet.
(-)Epicatechin is a strong Aromatase Inhibitor. (-)epicatechin
INCREASES our endogenous Testosterone levels naturally
by inhibiting Aromatase. The same results occur as we age as well. Consuming more broccoli can increase our endogenous Testosterone levels regardless of age!. When combined with exercise an Increase in Lean body mass results.
Other common foods high in (-)Epicatechin include cocoa, and Green tea. Cocoa is of course used to make CHOCOLATE ! (YEAH!). The interesting thing about the high (-)Epicatechin levels in cocoa is the levels are highest in Dark chocolate much less in milk or white chocolate.
This provides me the "Loop hole" to get out of eating the broccoli. My mom or my sister will "steal my plate" and the broccoli on it regardless, so the point is moot in this case. They still make me eat my broccoli (Ugh!), but I can justify eating the dark chocolate after!... Be well.

Your mother and "Popeye" are right. If you want to grow up to be "Big and strong, eat your spinach". As I sit. here eating my 2nd Twinki!
Ursolic acid- Ursolic acid is compound found in green leafy vegetables such as spinach. Kelp (sea w**d), Cranberries, Billberries, Holy basil, and within the peel of apples, especially green apples. You have seen Ursolic. Ursolic acid gives the peel of an apple that "shiny" appearance. Next time when you are a supermarket, stand back a few feet and observe the "shine" on the apples. That's the Ursolic acid. Super markets take advantage of this, by placing the apples under bright lights. It makes the fruit more appealing. All have seen commercials on TV where they advertise facial creams which proclaim
"Younger looking skin, rid your face of wrinkles, and regain that youthful appearance. Believe it or not there is compelling scientific evidence that supports their claim and it is due to the high Ursolic concentration within their facial cream. You have seen this, many facial creams have "Bluish/green" hue to the facial mask. The blue/green color of the facial cream is due to the Kelp (Sea w**d) within the cream. Remember, Kelp (sea w**d) is high in Ursolic acid. Ursolic acid is great for facial creams because it thickens collagen fibers within the skin. The thickening of the collagen fibers "straighten" out the wrinkles, hence providing a more "youthful" appearance to the skin.
Ursolic acid has is currently being studied as a possible treatment for patients diagnosed with Duschen's Muscular Dystrophy (DMD)
DMD is a disease characterized by degeneration and atrophy of skeletal muscle. The fatality of this disease is do in a large part to the degeneration and atrophy of the skeletal muscles of both the diaphram and intercostal muscles. Lose of function of either will resort in the eventual death of the patient. Loss of function of the diaphram will require that the patient needs to be on mechanical ventilation.
Studies have clearly shown that administration of high doses of Ursolic acid thickens and strengthens skeletal muscles. Treatment of patients with Ursolic acid can thicken the skeletal muscle of the diaphram, slowing down the degeneration process and halting atrophy.
Studies in animals (Rats mostly) have clearly shown the inhibition of degeneration of skeletal muscle with a statistically significant DECREASE in skeletal muscle atrophy. Still much more research needs to be done, but results are promising. So go have an apple or two and
"Eat your Spinach" like your mother tells you!. I will start,...after I finish eating my Twinki!...

Vitamin B12 deficiency
Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamine) is important for maturation of red and white blood cells (RBC's, WBC's) within the bone marrow. Vitamin B12 is also crucial for normal function of the peripheral nervous system. When low (called Pernicious Anemia)
patients can present with lack of energy, low motivation. Blood work will show normal RBC count BUT the MCHC will be higher than normal. Prolonged deficiency of B12 can cause a "Peripheral Neuropathy" manifest by "Pins and needles" especially in the feet. Vitamin B12 deficiency is most commonly seen in senior citizens and strict vegetarians. Vitamin B12 is stored in liver and levels can never be high enough to cause toxicity.
Interestingly, we are now seeing Vitamin B12 deficiency presenting in younger middle aged patients who are non-vegetarians. These patients are frequently asymptomatic, and if not for a high MCHC are fine. Along with the increase of Vitamin B12 deficiency acid blocking medications such as Pepcid, Nexium, Omeprazole are being prescribed more and more frequently for acid reflux. All of these medications are safe and very effective. This is ONLY an assumption, but Vitamin B12 found meat is attached to a carrier protein called "R protein". R Protein combines with the Vitamin B12 within our saliva, stabilizes it and transports it to the stomach, where the stomach acid could dislodge the R-protein where the Vitamin B12 is passed on to another transporter Intrinsic Factor (IF) which transports the Vitamin B12 into the small into the small intestine where it is absorbed and makes its way into the bone marrow and peripheral nervous system.
One possible explanation (this is my assumption only) is when the gastric acid is lowered the Vitamin B12 attached to the R-Protein may NOT be detached. If this is true (again, my assumption only) then Intrinsic Factor (IF) will NOT be able to bind to the Vitamin B12. Pernicious Anemia is caused by LOW Intrinsic Factor concentration. Without IF, Vitamin B12 is NOT absorbed and is excreted with next bowel movement.
Regardless if my assumption is correct. The solution is simple, start taking B12 supplements, or better yet Vitamin B12 injections ( This bypasses the gut). Vitamin B12 is safe what your body does not use is stored in the liver. Vitamin B12 toxicity does not occur because what is not used is stored by the liver. Do NOT stop taking your gastric reflux medications
( Nexium, Omeprazole, Pepcid, Tagamet). These are great drugs with great safety record and are safe and effective. Continue to take your reflux medications, because the adverse effects of untreated gastric reflux disease is far worse (Esophageal cancer). CONTINUE TO TAKE YOUR REFLUX MEDICATIONS (Nexium etc.). Vitamin B12 supplements are safe and effective or get a yearly or even every 6 month injection of Vitamin B12 by your Physician.

Herbal fun fact: Where does the "Mad Hatter" in the "Alice and Wonderland" fairy tale come from?
In 19th century London, men as today wanted to look prosperous. The hats worn by men conveyed status and "breeding".
A hat could definitely "make the man" back in those days.
Hat makers were quite sought after. As part of making a hat, Mercury was used within the lining. Now, I do not know why Mercury was used as a hat liner but it was common. The amount and concentration of Mercury was very, very small.
So for the most part men never suffered from mercury poisoning. Like clothing designers of today, the best way to market your product was to get it out in public (No, TV, radio, or internet). The best way was to wear your hats out in public to help drum up business. Therefore, hat makers were on a daily basis of years then decades of being exposed to Mercury. Although in very, very, very amounts and concentration, the hat maker's hands , the forehead and scalp received a LOT of mercury exposure.
Mercury does have medicinal properties (To be discussed in future posts) but only in very, very, very small amounts eg.
.00001). However, when used in higher concentrations, Mercury poisoning is characterized by "Dementia". Mercury will collect within the Frontal Lobes of the brain. The Frontal Lobes of the human brain controls our personality, affect, decision making.
In the 19th century, "Dementia" was referred to as "Madness".
Thus, hat makers who were on a daily basis for years and decades exposed to Mercury. And when they wore the hats they made, they would sweat. Well, their perspiration INCREASED the absorption of the Mercury within the lining through the skin and brain. Over decades the Mercury builds up within the Frontal Lobes of the hatters resulting in Dementia, which they called "Madness". Hence, the "Mad Hatter" character in the story "Alice and Wonderland"...

Preservatives in topical supplications
Formaldehyde, facts you need to know
Last week, we pointed out that formaldehyde, used for decades as a preservative in topical over the counter applications is carcinogenic.
The amount of formaldehyde within these products are at levels that our FDA allows for an over the counter (OTC) application.
Unfortunately, the low concentration of formaldehyde makes it
no less of a carcinogen. We highly recommend that everyone read the ingredient list so you know what you are putting on yourself and on your loved ones.
Be aware of "FORMALDEHYDE RELEASERS". These are compounds that do NOT have "FORMALDEHYDE" in the name. However, once on the skin it's broken down to form "FORMALDEHYDE" and yes
FORMALDEHYDE is still a carcinogen. Some of the most common
Formaldehyde Releasing Compounds are the following:
In order, the FRPs that releases the most formaldehyde are
1.quaternium-15,
2. diazolidinyl urea,
3. DMDM hydantoin,
4. imidazolidinyl urea
Other frequently used compounds that are synonyms for
FORMALDEHYDE:
1. CH2O- CH2O represents the actual formula for "FORMALDEHYDE"!
2. Formalin
3. Formica aldehyde
4. Formal
5. HCHO
6.Methanal
7. Methylene oxide
8. Oxomethane
9.Oxymethylene
10. Paraform.
All are formaldehyde but " FORMALDEHYDE" is NOT within the name but once applied the body will convert it to FORMALDEHYDE
We here Jaxsens had absolutely no intention on ever using formaldehyde or the formaldehyde releasers as the preservative in our herbal cream.
We provide information to our patients and council them on ways to DECREASE their Cancer risk (Apply sunblock, add more vegetables to your diet, stop smoking etc.)
It would be hypocritical for us to use Formaldehyde or Formaldehyde Releasers in our Jaxsens Herbal Cream because FORMALDEHYDE is so inexpensive.
We found natural preservatives from plants and herbs which have shown both efficacy and safety. Jaxsens NEVER have and NEVER will put "PROFITS BEFORE PATIENTS"
Best wishes,....K. Moore, MD, Jaxsens Herbal Cream.

Preservatives in Topical Over The Counter (OTC) applications for arthritis, musculoskeletal pain, as well as Cosmetics: A VERY disturbing trend.
Australian Dream?, TETRASODIUM EDTA Nightmare!
Facts that you need to know.
All topical creams, salves, gels etc. must have preservatives to protect against the growth of mold, fungus etc. The most commonly used preservatives include:
1. Formaldehyde and it's derivatives
2. Formaldehyde Releasing Agents- These compounds initially are NOT formaldehyde, but once contacting the skin they are degraded by enzymes producing and
"RELEASING" formaldehyde hence the name "FORMALDEHYDE RELEASING AGENTS"
3.When FORMALDEHYDE is combined with SODIUM CYANIDE this produces another preservative ETHYLENEDIAMINE. This compound is best known by its acronym EDTA
Yes, the Sodium CYANIDE used to produce EDTA, is the same CYANIDE used by that COWARD ADOLF HI**ER and his N**i, wimps. All ROASTING in HELL I am sure.
CYANIDE is lethal because it disrupts cell metabolism.
This leads to the production of ACID within the cells and all organs resulting in DEATH. CYANIDE gives an ALMOND like smell.
Do not take my word for it, below is an excerpt from the science literature describing the mechanism of action of CYANIDE
"DESCRIPTION: Sodium cyanide releases hydrogen cyanide gas, a highly toxic chemical asphyxiant that interferes with the body's ability to use oxygen. Exposure to sodium cyanide can be rapidly fatal. It has whole-body (systemic) effects, particularly affecting those organ systems most sensitive to low oxygen levels: the central nervous system (brain)"
Topical pain relief creams on the market right now use EDTA in the form of
TETRASODIUM EDTA. "AUSTRALIAN DREAMS". is an example of a topical OTC analgesic that contains TETRASODIUM EDTA where it is used as a preservative and pe*******on enhancer. I am sure the concentration of TETRASODIUM EDTA in this product as well as in others who use it as a preservative is at a concentration that our
FDA says is safe. However, FORMALDEHYDE remains a CARCINOGEN, and
SODIUM CYANIDE still remains as a compound that can be toxic
A small concentration of the compound does NOT change the fact that FORMALDEHYDE is a carcinogen and Sodium CYANIDE can be toxic.
Myself and my partners are Physicians. There was absolutely NO chance that we would use FORMALDEHYDE, FORMALDEHYDE RELEASERS, or EDTA in our
JAXSENS HERBAL CREAM.
All companies have the safety of the public in mind. FORMALDEHYDE, FORMALDEHYDE RELEASERS, or EDTA are NOT expensive. They are made in bulk and used by companies for various products were a preservative is required. In our opinion here at JAXSENS cost of the ingredients although important, but We do NOT put PROFIT before patients. We reviewed many preservatives to add to our formula. Preservatives such as FORMALDEHYDE, FORMALDEHYDE RELEASERS, or EDTA, were NEVER considered. We turned to NATURE.
So when it came time to choose the preservative for our formula, we all said categorically that we will NEVER use FORMALDEHYDE, FORMALDEHYDE RELEASERS, or EDTA in our cream.
In fact we did find a WONDERFUL herb/plant that has been used for centuries as a preservative and had a great tract record of efficacy and safety. It is expensive however, because it is must be extracted from the herb/ plant. But safety ALWAYS comes first, here at Jaxsens "Patients before Profit"
Next week we will be reviewing FORMALDEHYDE RELEASERS. You need to know the name of the compound because the word FORMALDEHYDE, DOES NOT appear within the ingredient list. These companies can get pretty "Sneeky". The public needs to be made aware so you can make a well informed decision. More on that next week.
A thousand apologies for such a long post, but you need to the facts

Preservatives in Topical Herbal Formulations
Formaldehyde- Facts
1. What is it?
Formaldehyde is a colorless, flammable, strong-smelling chemical that is found in many household products. In addition to its most common use in embalming fluid used in mortuaries and medical school anatomy labs. Formaldehyde is also used as a preservative in many of the well known topical over the counter pain relief formulations ( I will mention the name of these products, but all know them well and probably have in your medicine cabinet).Short term exposure to high concentrations of formaldehyde can cause eye irritation, runny nose, cough, wheezing. All are reversible. However little is known regarding formaldehyde and Cancer risk. NO human studies exist to answer this question. However, in animal studies results showed that exposure to formaldehyde could cause nasal cancer in rats. Thus, in 1987, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classified formaldehyde as a probable human carcinogen under conditions of unusually high or prolonged exposure. In small amounts as is used in these topical over the counter medications, Formaldehyde still exists as having a possible Cancer risk. Therefore why expose yourself, and your family to a product with a cancer risk, albeit it might be small.
Jaxsens Herbal Cream does NOT use formaldehyde or "formaldehyde releasers"( To be discussed next week) as a preservative in our revolutionary herbal formulation. In Jaxsens Herbal Cream, our preservative comes from a PLANT.
Yes, plants will produce compounds that act as a "Natural preservative". Plants also need to keep mold, yeast, fungi population low. This is how plants have survived over the past 4 Billion years. Without such a "Natural Preservative" plants would not be able to grow because mold and yeast will degrade the nutrients that plant needs to survive. This occurs in topical formulations as well. Without preservatives, molds, fungi, yeast will decrease the shelf life and effectiveness of the topical formula. In Jaxsens Herbal Cream, our patented formula is so revolutionary and ground breaking that the preservative in our formula comes from a PLANT/HERB!. So look before you "Leep". Before you purchase that topical over the counter pain relieving cream, look at the ingredients. If you see "FORMALDEHYDE". My advice?, leave it. There exists an excellent topical herbal pain relief cream that uses "Nature" as a preservative!
Beware, some companies know that most consumers will not purchase any pain relief cream that uses "FORMALDEHYDE"as a preservative. BUT since formaldehyde is a really good preservative AND cheap they will disguise it.
These compounds when placed on the skin will be metabolized to produce FORMALDEHYDE!. BUT beware, "FORMALDEHYDE" is NOT in the name of the compound. These preservatives are known as "FORMALDEHYDE RELEASERS".
More on this next week.

Insects and plants: Great natural treatment for
"Low T". Better than Vi**ra or Cialis
Yes, insects!.. That "bird and bee" thing is based in fact with regard to the "BEE" part" ( Royal jelly and Bee pollen) Also, there exist plants that have 99% homology with Human Testosterone! providing a direct "BOOST" to your testosterone levels!. It's like giving yourself a direct injection of an anabolic steroid, but it is NOT a steroid, no adverse side effects and is ALL natural!. You come in contact with this "Testosterone boosting" plant every spring. This wonderful natural testosterone boosting plant is PINE POLLEN. I have been using this natural
Testosterone boosting plant for well over a year and it works great! I get ALL the effects of testosterone replacement therapy, without the adverse side effects. Pine pollen extracts are TOTALLY safe and very effective.
It is so effective in increasing your testosterone, I recommend NO male under the age of 35 should use this herb. It is just that powerful.

Royal jelly
Royal jelly is a compound produced by bees. Worker bees produce this substance and use it for the growth and maturation of the Queen Bee. How worker bees choose the larvae that will become the Queen bee is largely unknown. But when chosen, Royal jelly increases the size, maturation and life span of the Queen. Where a worker bees life span is measured in weeks, the Queen bee can live as long as 3-4 years!. Royal jelly when taken increases Testosterone levels! You can find products containing Royal jelly at any GNC, Vitamin shoppe,or supper market. Some of the Ginseng formulas contain Royal jelly. So if you start taking Ginseng for your general Heath, try and find the ginseng formulas that contain Royal jelly. You get the adaptogenic benefits of ginseng (Immune system booster, increasing energy and vitality etc.) but you also get the Testosterone boost. Royal jelly is a GREAT natural treatment for "Low T". I will discuss herbs that are GREAT replacement therapy for "Low T" in upcoming posts. Royal jelly is just one of many!

What is a tincture?
A tincture refers to an herb extracted in alcohol. It is the compounds within the herb, that dictates if they are best extracted in alcohol or water. Tinctures are most commonly dosed in " Drops per day". For example, Saw palmetto 25-52 drops 3 times per day in water, juice etc.
Be aware, if you suffer from GERD (Gastric Esophageal Reflux Disease), alcohol can make the symptoms worse. Although the alcohol content of the tincture maybe small, it is still alcohol, so just be aware.
If you are sensitive to alcohol look for the same herb in an "Alcohol free", or "Low alcohol content". Some will extract the herbs in glycerin which works just as well as alcohol, but without the adverse side effects of alcohol.

Cancer causing agents frequently use OXYGEN to cause mutations that will eventually lead to cancer.
Anti-oxidants can prevent cancer in many ways. One of the most common and simplistic way involves the conversion of the cancer causing agent into water (H2O) which is then used by the cell to perform its usual function. Anti-oxidants are more of a PREVENTATIVE measure, however, anti-oxidants can exert its anti-cancer effect by preventing further mutations that can make the cancerous cells more aggressive and more difficult to treat. Herbs many herbs have anti-oxidant properties. Tumeric is just one of many, but much the literature regarding the anti-oxidant and cancer preventing properties of herbs were done on TUMERIC.

The Anti-cancer capability of herbs
Many plants in nature have anti-inflammatory effects. Many of these plants are found in many topical herbal formulations, such as our revolutionary cream "Jaxsens Herbal cream". Other beneficial effects of herbs include the following:
1. Anti-oxidant
2. Immuno-stimulating properties which strengthens your immune system to help fight infections as well prevent the occurrence of colds. etc. Your immune system is the "First responder" when a normal cell mutates, the initial step in cancer formation. This is one of the reasons why the incidence of cancer increases as we age.
3. Anti-cancer prevention. This is attributed to both 1&2. Herbs act as an anti-oxidant and stimulate the immune system to assist in the identification and destruction of tumor cells before they pick up more mutations. If allowed to continue to divide and mutate, tumor cells will pick up such "Nasty habits" which include, but not limited to
A. Migrate and spread to other organs (metastasize)
B. Release proteins making tumor cells more resistant to chemotherapies.
The best known herb with anti-cancer properties is TUMERIC.
Countless molecular studies over the past 20 years have clearly demonstrated the anti cancer capabilities of TUMERIC. More on how TUMERIC acts as an Anti-cancer agent next week. But briefly, studies have shown that TUMERIC acts on genes within the nucleus of the tumor cell to inhibit the proliferation (growth) of tumor cells, thus preventing further mutations.
We will discuss how TUMERIC exerts its anti-tumor effect next week. You will discover that TUMERIC works similar to other well known chemotherapy drugs. More on this week.
