I’ve worked the front register at CVS for almost 7 years now. You’d think by now I’d be used to the little moments that break your heart... but this one hit me different.
It was around 4:30 on a Tuesday — slow, quiet. A woman in her mid-40s came up to check out. I remember she had her daughter with her, maybe 9 or 10 years old. She was holding a basket with some basics — shampoo, allergy meds, a snack or two, nothing fancy. Her total came to $25 and some change.
I could tell the second she saw the screen that it was too much. She started putting things back, quietly, while her daughter looked up at her. That’s when the man behind her stepped forward.
“Hey, I got it,” he said, calm and casual. Before she could even react, he reached over and swiped his card.
She froze. You could see the tears building up in her eyes — not because of the money, but because someone actually saw her and helped without hesitation. She tried to thank him, but he just smiled and said, “No problem. Take care of yourself.”
Then he turned around and noticed an elderly couple next in line. “Let me cover theirs too,” he said. Just like that. No big show, just kindness like it was part of his routine.
I rang them all up, still kind of stunned. The woman with the daughter stepped aside, but I noticed she didn’t leave. She was standing around the corner near the blood pressure machine, like she was waiting.
Once it slowed down, I couldn’t help myself — I asked him, “How are you able to do stuff like that? Just pay for strangers like it’s nothing?”
He leaned in a little, like he was about to let me in on a secret.
“You got Wi-Fi?” he asked.
I nodded, confused.
“Then you can do this too,” he said. “There’s a weird little trick I found online. Doesn’t take any tech skills or selling stuff. Just some clicks on your phone. It’s called the Net Boost trick. I started doing it a few months ago, and now I make more in a day than I used to in a week.”
I laughed a little, thinking he was joking. But he pulled out his phone and showed me. The numbers didn’t lie. Daily payouts. $200 here, $500 there. Even a couple days where he cleared $1,000. All from his couch, using nothing but Wi-Fi.
“No talking, no sales, no weird side hustle stuff,” he said. “Big companies hate it ‘cause it works. But they can’t do anything to stop it.”
Before he left, he handed me a little card with a QR code on it.
“Video’s only a few minutes. Watch it while you’re on break,” he said. “Changed everything for me. Might change things for you too.”
That night I watched it on my phone in the break room. And honestly? I’m still wrapping my head around it. But I started the steps. And I’ve already made more than I would working overtime this week.
They say not all heroes wear capes. Sometimes they wear hoodies, swipe cards for strangers, and quietly teach people how to flip their Wi-Fi into a paycheck.
