The “Pumpkintown” Festival in Athens, Tennessee gets underway next month as one of the best fall events of the year in this area of the state! On Saturday, October 10, historic downtown Athens will fill with fall fun from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and admission is completely free. Founded in 2003, Pumpkintown now draws around 25,000 visitors each year. You can browse hundreds of arts, crafts, food, and local business booths, hear live music including Appalachian Road Show, and watch the Scott Crisp Memorial PowWow celebrate Native American music, dancing, and traditions. Local history is part of the day too, with walking tours, the USS Ware exhibit, a Dauntless cockpit simulator, and a commemorative brick dedication. Kids can enjoy pumpkin painting, Pumpkin Plinko, and a petting zoo, while the Mutt Strutt, dog costume contest, adopt-a-thon, and annual quilt show add even more to see. Food trucks and a live auction benefiting Hiking for Healing round out this packed fall day.
