✨ Microlock Extension Tip You May NOT Know ✨

When starting Microlocks with extensions, longer isn’t the only thing we have to think about — WEIGHT matters too! 👀💕

Every extension adds weight to your natural hair. That means the size, length, and amount of extension hair should be customized to what YOUR individual strands can safely support.

🍬 Fine or lower-density hair may need lighter, smaller extensions to avoid unnecessary tension.

🍬 Medium-to-high-density hair may be able to support more length or fullness — but proper sizing is still important.

🍬 And here’s the SWEET part: your extension should complement the size of your natural Microlock. A tiny natural loc carrying too much extension hair can create a weak point over time.

At Candi Sweets Beauty, we’re not just asking, “How long do you want them?” 💕 We’re looking at your strand thickness, density, desired loc count, extension weight, length AND long-term maintenance.

Because Microlock extensions should be designed for how beautiful they look TODAY and how well your natural hair can support them as your own hair grows and your locs mature. 🍭✨

✨ Your Sisterlocks™ & Microlocks may start off thin but they WILL CHANGE! Let’s talk about the journey from STARTER locs to TEENAGE locs. 💕🍬

One thing we remind our clients at Candi Sweets Beauty is that the loc you see on installation day is NOT the loc you’ll have a year from now.

During the baby stage, your new locs may look very thin and delicate. This is because the locking structure has just been created and your hair hasn’t had time to expand, mesh and settle into the loc yet.

As you move into the teenage stage, usually around months 3–6 and beyond, you may start noticing more frizz, puffiness, budding and thickness. Don’t panic! 🙌🏾 Your hair is beginning to lock.

Here’s something many new loc clients don’t realize: when you wear loose hair, naturally shed strands eventually fall away. With locs, many of those shed hairs become trapped within the loc, helping create its body and fullness. As the hair continues to tangle, mesh and compact, those skinny starter locs begin filling out.

By 6–18 months, depending on your texture, density, loc size and maintenance, your locs can look dramatically different from Day 1. Some may appear close to twice their original thickness once they SETTLE IN.

🍭 Candi’s Loc Tip: Never choose your loc size based solely on how skinny the starter loc looks! A professional should consider your hair density, strand size, texture AND how that loc is expected to mature. Starting too large can leave you with a mature loc much thicker than you originally wanted.

And please don’t be afraid of the FRIZZ! 😂💕 Frizz, swelling and budding during the teenage stage are often normal parts of the locking process.

Day 1 ➡️ Month 6 ➡️ Month 12 ➡️ Month 18

Give them time. Give them proper maintenance. And most importantly… let those babies grow up! 🍬✨
