“Why do you do hair?”
This. This is why.

Kids don’t always want their hair cut. They don’t like the noises or the feelings, they don’t want to sit down, they just want to be left alone. So I meet them where they’re at. We go slow and take breaks when they’re needed. We watch shows, pick out toys, and look at super heroes. If following a little one around for an hour is what it takes to get it done, then that’s what I’ll do.

I’m so thankful I get to do this every day. 🖤

How did I get here?
I didn’t decide to go to hair school until I was 19. My plan after high school originally was to go to school for sports medicine, but once I started college I quickly realized that the classroom setting just wasn’t for me. I took a few months off & thought about what path I wanted to take next, then made the decision to enroll in the cosmetology program at a vocational school in 2015. I was a competitive cheerleader growing up so big hair and glam makeup was nothing new to me.
After my first month or so, I was in love with the trade & felt like I was thriving in the hands-on aspect of learning. Men’s cuts weren’t something that was heavily covered in school but I was drawn towards them from the beginning. I like to credit a lot of that to my grandpa, who was my first men’s haircut in school and my guinea pig to try new things. “The only difference between a good haircut and a bad one is a few weeks” is what he always used to tell me. He was my most loyal client from day one, my first haircut and I was very fortunate to be able to give him his last haircut after he passed away a few years ago.
There have been times I’ve decided to take a break from the trade but I always end up making my way back behind the chair. I truly love what I do and I love being able to help people feel better in their skin!
