Hand stitching is one of my favorite parts of leather work. I use my machine a lot these days, so slowing down to hand stitch these journals was really fun.

Hand made is the art of slowing down. It’s not easy in the fast paced world.

My kids have me running in a million different directions (and LOVE IT!), but stepping into my studio is a quiet invitation to slow down, focus, and use my hands to make something lovely (or sometimes not so lovely. Mistakes are beautiful, too!)

This is your permission to take a slow moment to tap into your creativity and make something. Who cares if it’s good?!? The peace is worth the effort.

I had a delightful group of young teens in my studio today. They pelted me with questions, one of which was “doesn’t this take a LOT of time?!?”

Yes, kid. Yes, it does. But time spent creating something beautiful is time well spent. Time using your gifts of artistry and creativity, patience and attention to detail, care in the quality and appearance of the final product - it’s all time well spent!

I hope these kids leave my studio learning that creating with your hands and and sharing your God given gifts with others is always a gift to the world!

Paying attention to the tiny details no one will see is important. These little keepers will be secured onto bag straps and the little waxed thread Xs won’t bee seen again.
