The kids are with my mom today, and I’m catching up on work. I have room to think, be alone, and enjoy something I rarely get: time when I don’t have to talk or answer anybody.

I miss them. And I’m enjoying knowing they’re cared for while some of the weight is off my shoulders. Both are true.

But something I notice in the quiet is that I’m still tired. I rarely get enough good sleep to actually feel rested, and that exhaustion doesn’t disappear just because I have a few hours to myself.

Then comes the urge to rush. Suddenly, I feel like I need to get 1,000,001 things done yesterday. Work, clean, catch up—fit everything into this little window before they come home.

I’m trying to remind myself that I’m allowed to use some of this time to simply exist. Finish a thought. Sit in silence. Take my time doing one thing.

Having help doesn’t mean I owe the day more productivity. Sometimes I need to let myself feel the relief, too. 🤍

I feel better physically today, but I’m still tired. And feeling better isn’t always the same as feeling rested.

Today has been full of sick kids, big emotions, little injuries, and hurt feelings. Getting two toddlers down for a nap is a battle, and the quiet afterward feels like it lasts five minutes.

I sit with my older girls, listening to their banter, wanting to soak it in. But my mind keeps running through everything I still need to get done. My body is sitting, but my brain is already on the next task.

Honestly, I want a whole day to rest. To relax. To nap when I’m tired without having to coordinate everyone else’s needs first.

One day, my kids will be okay with that. Today is not that day. 😂

And yet, they’re so sweet and funny at these ages. Sometimes I want to hold onto this season forever. Then the whining and screaming start, and I feel overwhelmed and rushed again.

As a nurse coach—and a mom living this, too—I want to remind you: you can enjoy your children and still need a break from being needed.

Gratitude doesn’t erase exhaustion. Loving this season doesn’t mean you have unlimited capacity for it.

Today, my reset is asking: “What actually needs to happen, and what can wait while I recover?” It won’t make every demand disappear, but it can help me stop treating every task like an emergency.

If you’re in this space too, what’s one expectation you could soften today? 🤍

Today looks like working from home with my kids and nieces here, laundry going, and a house that feels a little too hot and humid. 😅

I’m also catching up after taking the weekend off. I rested instead of pushing myself to get one more thing done.

And honestly? I don’t feel guilty. But I do feel the pressure of catching up, worrying about finances, and wondering whether I’m doing enough for the patients I support.

You can feel good about a boundary and still feel stressed by what’s waiting on the other side of it.

My weekends are supposed to be time off. This weekend, I honored that. The work waiting today doesn’t mean resting was the wrong choice.

This is part of what I talk about in nurse coaching: noticing your capacity, making room for your needs, and practicing boundaries even when they feel uncomfortable.

For the mom trying to make room for herself in a full life: you don’t have to finish everything before you’re allowed to rest. 🤍

What’s one boundary you’re practicing right now?

I’m not a nurse coach because I’m a perfect mom. I’m a nurse coach because I understand how heavy motherhood can feel—and I believe moms deserve support, too. 🌿

Today I don’t feel good.

Nothing dramatic. I’m just tired, run down, and my body is telling me it would really like to clock out for the day.

But I’m a mom… and I work from home. So “clocking out” is a little complicated. 😂

There’s still work that needs to be done. Messages to answer. Things to follow up on. Kids who need snacks, help, attention, and apparently something from me approximately every 37 seconds.

Then there’s dinner.

And dishes.

And the random messes that somehow appear even though I swear I just cleaned that spot.

Working from home is such a weird mix because I’m grateful that I get to be here. I can work in comfy clothes, be close to my kids, throw something in the crockpot between calls, and build a life that gives me more flexibility.

But home doesn’t stop being home just because I’m working.

And work doesn’t disappear just because I’m Mom.

And today, I don’t feel good while trying to be both.

So today isn’t a “push harder” kind of day.

It’s a do-what-needs-to-be-done, simplify what I can, let some things wait until tomorrow, and stop expecting myself to operate at 100% when I very clearly don’t have 100% to give kind of day.

Some days balance looks productive.

Some days balance looks like deciding what actually matters today and letting that be enough.

Sometimes I’m just tired.

Not mentally exhausted.
Not emotionally overwhelmed.
Not in survival mode.

I literally just need some sleep. 😂

Right now we’re living life between two houses during the week and weekends. There’s so much happening, so much changing, and honestly—so much life to enjoy.

But I also have four kids.

Two of them are toddlers.

And apparently toddlers wake up every morning with a fully charged battery while I’m operating on whatever was left plugged in overnight. 😂

I miss my older girls when they’re not with me. And when it’s just me with the twins, sometimes I find myself wishing I had another set of hands for a little while.

Not because I don’t want to be with them.

Because two toddlers are A LOT.

I think sometimes we make motherhood more complicated than it needs to be. We start analyzing ourselves:

Why am I so tired?
Why can’t I get more done?
Why don’t I have more energy?

Meanwhile, our body is standing there like…

Girl. You have four children. Go to bed. 😂

So that’s my reset tonight.

Not a new routine.
Not more discipline.
Not figuring out how to be more productive.

Sleep.

Because sometimes the thing you need to feel better tomorrow really is that simple. 🌲🤍
