June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month, and this one is personal.

My grandfather had Alzheimer’s. My beautiful mother had it for a very long time. Watching her go through that disease changed the core of who I am.

It tried to steal my joy. Honestly, it did steal my joy for a while.

Mom has been gone for 10 years now, and I miss her dearly. But I will never forget how horrific this disease was for her and how painful it was for everyone who loved her.

Today, I’m sharing a picture of my beautiful mother in her honor.

If you have a loved one going through Alzheimer’s, dementia, memory loss, or cognitive decline, my prayers are with you. Please comment their picture or their name so we can lift them up together.

While there is no guaranteed way to prevent Alzheimer’s, research does support healthy habits that may help lower the risk of cognitive decline:

1. Move your body daily, even a simple walk helps support brain and heart health.
2. Eat more brain-supporting foods like vegetables, berries, lean protein, nuts, and less processed food.
3. Prioritize sleep because your brain needs rest, repair, and recovery.
4. Keep learning, reading, creating, and challenging your mind.
5. Stay connected because loneliness and isolation can impact brain health.
6. Certain supplements can help assist support for prevention.

I’ll share a few supplements I personally take in the comments, including lion’s mane. Always do your own research and talk with your doctor before starting anything new.
