You cannot control what other people do when it comes to doing hair but you can most certainly fix it and make it shine.

The extensions you see in this post were poorly color matched and installed with cotton embroidery thread by someone who was (clearly) not certified to do extensions.

Once I removed the extensions and removed the matting caused by them I shampooed and then chelated the client. While she was processing I stripped the extensions of all the purple shampoo she had been using along with copious amounts of dry shampoo.

Once clean I refreshed the color on the extensions going darker to match more accurately without losing dimension. I then conditioned and blew out the client and reinstalled the extensions using the hidden bead method.

As you can see from the after pictures they matched beautifully and the the texture of the extensions has been renewed. Unfortunately the matting had created spots of density loss that required larger sectioning for her base bead layer.

When you have sewn in wefts you must be sure that when you wash you make sure to dry your roots to 80% to prevent this kind of matting. You should also expect to have them moved up or reinstalled about every 5-8 weeks depending on you level of hair growth.

Extensions are a "luxury" service, but they don't have to break the bank. If you take care of them properly they can last you about 18 months before they need to be replaced.

I alot 1.5 hours for a low maint reinstall, longer if there is matting to be dealt with.

My how I love doing extensions!!

This client is my dream extension client. She actually takes really good care of her extensions between visits, makes sure to properly dry at least her roots after washing and does not use claw clips.

Her biggest challenge is her very fine hair and density. This makes deeper and larger bead line sectioning more important so that the extensions have a solid foundation on which to hold. I use a poly "smart" weft to reduce weight and increase flexibility of the installation.

Starting this month she will be wearing a double "butterfly" weft from Superior Hair Extensions so that we can double her density without compromising the weight of her installation.

Hey everyone! New education alert!!

I honestly couldn't be more excited for this up coming event.

As many of you know I am an education "ju**ie" and I haven't had in person education since the year of Covid. 😭

Well I am back to it with a big bang in Las Vegas August 4-7th and I don't plan on taking my foot off the peddle for quite sometime.

Among other skills that I am considering adding over the next year (if my budget can handle it) is Vlight Extensions, Harper Ellis Hair Co. Extensions, a handful of lightening and glazing courses with Masters of Balayage.

You can only stay on the leading edge of your game if you continue to educate and inspire yourself to keep evolving!

I will be returning to the salon on Monday August 11th with a whole new satchel of ideas and motivation.
