Q❓: How is a breast augmentation performed?
A✔️: An incision can be made either in the crease where the breast meets the chest, around the ar**la, or in the armpit. The surgeon lifts the muscle, breast tissue and skin to create a pocket and inserts the implant.
Q❓: Are implants under the muscle or on top of the muscle?
A✔️: Typically, our surgeons place implants under the muscle. This provides better camouflage and reduces the chance of developing a scar capsule around the implant. Placing implants under the muscle means less chance of contractures for the patient. Our surgeons prefer this technique because this also make breast tissue more visible for future mammograms.
Q❓: Silicone or saline?
A✔️: While both saline and silicone can be used for breast augmentation, our surgeons typically use Natrelle INSPIRA silicone implants. You'll often hear these referred to as "gummy" or "gummy bear" implants. Dr. Atalla and Dr. Durnen will discuss what implant types and profiles are available to determine the best option for each patient.
